Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Ovando.
Brenda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As an empathetic introvert, let’s just say working in a typical corporate career path in America did not take advantage of my inherent strengths.
I became a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Virginia in 2010. At that time, I was relocating from the state of New York to move in with my husband. He was living in Virginia and was a practicing chiropractor there and suggested I take a look at massage therapy. It was a case of someone else seeing potential in you before you could.
In massage therapy school I realized I had finally found the skill in life that felt like home. Touching people therapeutically and finding a flow seemed to be an intuitive thing for me. I couldn’t wait to learn more. I could see myself thriving in this profession.
During a student clinic one day, my instructor said that it takes 10,000 of practice (or ten years) to become an expert so when I graduated from massage school I decided to work on as many bodies as I could.
As a Licensed Massage Therapist I have worked in busy spas, on-site for hotels and condominiums; within assisted living homes; chiropractic clinics; and large conventions. Many of these situations I’ve held multiple positions during the same time period. As I round up on 10 years of practicing I am confident in my abilities.
I opened my private practice in Richardson, TX in 2018. Throughout my career, I have discovered the most effective techniques which reliably help most people. This is what I offer in my practice. My practice uses techniques executed on a large king-sized comfortable floor mat. I can move people around, stretch them, address soft tissue discomforts, and help them recover to live their daily lives in less discomfort and less pain. My practice helps people reach their mobility, fitness, and wellness goals.
Richardson is a great community to work in. The diversity and location of this thriving city make it appealing and accessible for people in all directions of DFW. Plus, you definitely need to get a bite to eat while you’re in town!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I lost my adult daughter in October of 2018 to her battle with mental illness. This world is a difficult place to live with many modern stresses and worries. Losing her was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to accept and I continue to live with the grief. But this loss also makes it more important for me to educate my community on the benefits of massage and bodywork. It’s important for people to know that there are safe places where people can have work done to improve their wellness and help them face the stresses in this life.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
