Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendon Mills.
Brendon, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from Dallas, born at Baylor Hospital, and started my career in high-tech in the city. I spent over 20 years in various high-tech startups and founded two companies, Genband and RipCode, here in Dallas and Austin. After my start-up days, my partner Brian Alton and I acquired Fortress Solutions in 2012. Fortress Solutions is located in Plano and we service the telecommunications after-market industry through equipment repair/refurbishment, technical call services, and logistics/sparing. Additionally, Fortress Solutions has a subsidiary called Fortress UAV which services the drone industry with outsourced repair and maintenance functions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After almost 30 years in the high-tech business world, I have experienced several boom and bust cycles within the industry and here in Texas. I founded two successful startups and am now operating a profitable, later-stage business. I have had the luxury and curse of managing through most of the highs and lows that come with the territory. The accumulated wisdom makes it easier to manage the business nowadays and it is good to be living in a city that is going through such a robust business growth cycle.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fortress Solutions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Fortress Solutions focuses on the transition cycles of the telecommunications industry. As widely reported, the telecommunications industry is experiencing a major transformation from older, analog voice transmission services to futuristic internet data and video content providers. Fortress assists telecom carriers through this business transformation by providing solutions to bridge, outsource, and eventually convert these old technologies into the new technologies of the future. Fortress Solutions offers equipment repair, technical call support, and logistics/sparing services to bridge the carrier’s legacy markets into new solutions such as 5G mobility and video content services.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Fortress Solutions create a subsidiary in 2017 named Fortress UAV to address the burgeoning drone and unmanned aerial vehicle market. Recently, Fortress UAV has partnered with Doosan, a large South Korean conglomerate, the help distribute and support Doosan’s new hydrogen fuel cell drone. The new drone from Doosan can fly for over three hours by using an onboard hydrogen fuel cell to create power for the drone. Fortress UAV not only supports and resells the drone, but we will also distribute compressed hydrogen gas to their customers nationwide to fuel the drones.
