Meet Bret & Heather Cox and Ben & Tina Pemberton of Lone Star Mercantile

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bret & Heather Cox and Ben & Tina Pemberton.

Bret & Heather and Ben & Tina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Lone Star Mercantile is a locally owned and family run business! The idea started with Bret, after visiting a store with a similar concept in KY. He brought his friend and co-worker, Ben in on it and the rest is history!

Ben and Bret spent countless hours remodeling an old Albertson’s into what you see today! Engineers by trade, every step of the way was planned out in minute detail. The labor was intense! Family and friends were recruited to help, and they spent many hours pitching in as well.

Bret’s wife, Heather and Ben’s wife, Tina got to work filling the booths and advertising this new venture. Over 200 vendors joined the journey and signed up to be Lone Star Mercantile’s inaugural vendors. We opened our doors in August of 2017.

Lone Star Mercantile is truly a labor of love, and we are so proud to be part of this community. Our vendors do an amazing job creating their individual booth spaces, and we could not exist without them!

At Lone Star Mercantile, our mission is to create an enjoyable shopping experience that customers of all ages can enjoy. We are eager to provide North Texas with quality products at very attractive prices.

From décor to furniture, to antiques, clothing and more, we have something to suit everyone’s taste! Our store is home to a number of local professionals who go above and beyond to give back to the community through the products they offer.

Has it been a smooth road?
While starting LSM has been loads of fun, there have definitely been struggles and challenges along the way! Starting any business requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice on behalf of the business owners themselves, as well as their families. Finding the perfect location to plant our store was one of the significant challenges we faced, and we are so happy we chose Allen to be our home!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lone Star Mercantile story. Tell us more about the business.
LSM is a family owned and operated business! The owners take pride in being very hands-on at the store as well as building relationships with both the customers and vendors.

With over 200 small business owners under one roof, when people shop at Lone Star, they are supporting hundreds of local families instead of corporations or large chain stores.

Customer service is also a high priority at LSM. Our helpful staff works diligently to help shoppers find exactly what it is they’re looking for.

Many of our talented vendors also design and create custom items for shoppers as well! Whether its a customized gift for a favorite teacher or the perfect home accent or furniture piece, it’s rare shoppers leave empty handed!

Lone Star is also known for their friendly staff, fun music and special events that happen throughout the year! It’s definitely more than shopping – it’s an experience!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the years to come, we hope to continue to provide local business owners a clean, upscale, organized environment to showcase and sell their items all while giving customers from near and far a unique shopping experience! We look forward to growing and are excited to see what the future holds!
