Meet Brett Thompson of Gold Horse Academy in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Thompson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brett. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started training and leading Qigong classes in May of 2009. I was introduced to this ancient Chinese practice when I first meet a Qigong and Kung Fu Master Instructor through a mutual friend. Master Instructor Jerry Dibble taught me not only the principles and forms of Qigong, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu, but also how to teach it and to start an academy so I could reach the community. I learned most of my entrepreneur skills from him. I then started studying people like Jim Rohn and Robert Kiyosaki to enhance and refine my skills to operate a successful martial arts academy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No. Every successful business has its ups and downs. A martial arts school is no different. The biggest challenge I had at the beginning was finding new students who were willing to train. I tried several market strategies with no luck. Eventually with persistence and consistency, students starting enrolling and classes began to fill up. The biggest challenge I have now is doing everything myself.

Gold Horse Academy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Redefining Aging with a World Class Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Chi Gong Curriculum, designed by Tai Chi Masters and Medical Doctors, for Health, Restoration and Longevity.

At Gold Horse Academy, we guide our students on their path to healing, transformation, and self-mastery through the practice of Qigong, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu. Our students learn the medical, martial, and spiritual aspects of these practices while building strength and flexibility, balance and coordination, relaxation and focus. In every program, we emphasize building a strong foundation in fundamental movements, with step-by-step instruction.

What sets the Gold Horse Academy apart from other martial arts schools is the academy’s lineage has developed a system to teach the warrior arts as healing arts for all ages.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
How we define success is the number of black belts graduated every year.
