Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Pride Sr.
Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, I was born in Hayti Heights, Mo where my foundation was instilled in me by my grandmother (Lee Anna Pride) for motivating and encouraging. It was always something I loved and enjoyed doing. Uplifting and elevating those that I encounter. I migrated to Memphis, Tn with my mom in 2003. Where I later met my wife in 2011 and later married in 2012. We then in 2015 moved to Fort Worth, Tx. Little did I know that with every where God placed me. Through it all, he had a plan in how he wanted my foundation and my experiences utilized to help the masses. My journey into fashion started in February 2019. It actually happened, I would say coincidentally. I say that because I had no intention of creating a clothing brand. It all started with an idea one day to create a crest/logo to represent my family. I ended up reaching out to a friend of mine how who had recently gotten a logo designed. He gave me the information through whom he had gone through which was this affordable company called Fiverr. I took the information, found a graphic designer and had a crest/logo made. Not many people know but the original letters of my brand were PF, this was before it became a clothing brand, Which stood for Pride Family. I decided to show it to a co-worker and he loved it and suggested that I put it on clothes. I wasn’t feeling the apparel aspect first off, so I told him I would pray about it! lol well God answered and said yes! So I went back to my co-worker and told him, we agreed that it was too personal for a clothing brand. So guess what I did again? Yep, I prayed about a new name and well….I was shocked because God gave me the word hustle. I looked up and said “God are you sure?” he said “Yep!”. I was like “Ok”. lol well I took this info back to my co-worker, he lit up and said “bro that is dope, I love it” now put that on a shirt and ill buy it. lol, well to me it wasn’t quite fitting without having a slogan and backstory! So once again I had to go into prayer. Little did I know that God was going to tell me to use my own story as the backstory to reach the people. And out of that my slogan “Take Pride In Your Hustle. Own It” was born. The Pride Hustle Clothing Brand was Coming together pretty nice. Well instead of me outsourcing I bought my own equipment with just a little over $400 bucks, learned how to use it, pressed my first shirt and launched The Pride Hustle Clothing Brand on February 17, 2019 right out of my 1 bedroom apartment with my wife and son. Within the next week, my wife registered me for a women’s conference at our home church Trinity Harvest Church in Hurst, Texas where I did my first vending event showcasing my brand and I’ve been changing and inspiring lives through apparel ever since. I have to give credit to my Pastor Ray Taylor for regularly encouraging me as well as the church body to step out on faith and pursue what God has shown and promised us.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, I had to watch countless YouTube videos just on how to operate my equipment. Making sure I cut out my designs right, clean and clear as well making sure that I pressed them onto my shirts or any other piece of apparel correctly, properly aligned and clear. Speaking to the public and promoting my brand was rough because I struggled with the anxiety of public speaking. But I’m progressing over that obstacles. I have to, it’s required being a clothing brand owner and somewhat of a one man crew. But it’s part of the journey and I’m enjoying it!
Tell us more about the business.
Well, with The Pride Hustle Clothing Brand, I cut and press my apparel. I’m known for producing quality products with a motivating, relatable story, while providing great customer service to my customers. I’m the proudest of the fact that I stepped out on faith and pursued this business. The hardest part of any dream or business is taking the first step(s). What sets me apart from others is that my story which is the backstory of my brand is the story of so many people who live in this world who now have a brand that represents them.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t like to use the word luck, but I will in this case. Luck has opened doors and opportunities for me and has allowed me to meet some amazing people, make great connections.
