Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian and Sarah Salcedo.
Hi Brian and Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In many ways, Brian and I, Sarah, were always meant to be together. Both growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Brian spent his day’s woodworking with his grandfather and I had to visit every open house I came across. We met on my first day of work for a local homebuilder, where Brian was already employed. Together, our skills, relationship and passion for homebuilding grew. We eventually started dating and were married exactly five years to the date of that first day. We started our first company in 2005 in the Seattle area with a home flip. We continued working hard doing a variety of projects all to keep our dream of custom home building alive.
In 2010, as the recession was starting to hit, things were looking dim for our now family of four. We had dreams of a better life for our family, a more accessible cost of living and sunshine! Texas was the first on our list and Brian quickly planned a trip to the Lone Star State. One month later, we had sold almost everything we owned and packed the rest into a Uhaul headed south. We acclimated quickly, arriving in early 2011 and experiencing one of the hottest summers on record. Brian found a job with a large homebuilder and started forming relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and other industry members. Over the next few years, Brian gained knowledge of construction practices in Texas and invested in the community. We also added two more little Texans to our family! In 2017, we felt the Holy Spirit moving in our life and we knew it was time to embark on entrepreneurship again. With that, we are proud to introduce you to Salcedo Homes! Through patience and persistence, we are now building the homes of our dreams. This is our 20th year working together and we are confident in our abilities, knowledge and excitement for every project we have the privilege to work on. As we continue to persevere through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and historic weather in Texas, we have never been more determined to chase after our dreams. We are resilient and we have the best team and subcontractors in the business behind us. We are dedicated to providing an exceptional product and experience for our clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For us, entrepreneurship has been the most difficult experience of our lives. The last 20 years have been tumultuous for us personally and our industry. We have prevailed through the recession and financial crisis beginning in 2008, managed historic weather and rainfall in Texas and are working every day to overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have sadly lost subcontractors to the coronavirus and our industry has seen unprecedented price increases, delays, restrictions and permitting issues. These circumstances have tested us as a couple and a company in every way possible. We have been betrayed by people we trusted, we have gone without pay and we have had to turn the other cheek. We have sacrificed everything except for our integrity and we recognize that is why we are still standing today. We have an unrelenting passion to never give up on our dreams and our relationships. We strive every day to build the most incredible homes and provide a one-of-a-kind experience for our clients.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up in the 1980s truly seems like the last idyllic generation our world will ever know. Both Brian & Sarah would be outside from sun up to sundown. Brian would often be building things and playing with friends. Sarah could be found riding her bike or selling homemade perfume of flowers and water. Brian has always had a spirit of adventure and loved to have fun! There is never a dull moment when Brian is around. He can sing, play guitar, he is funny and creative. It is no wonder he was chosen as Mr. Kentridge of his high school.
Brian spent his entire childhood and college career playing baseball. He was a pitcher for many elite teams, which brought out his competitive and driven nature. Sarah was focused and determined growing up. She worked hard through school, earning straight A’s and a double major in college. Sarah was also competitive and enjoyed playing 3rd base in fastpitch softball. Sarah has always been creative and loved painting and photography. While they did not go to any of the same schools, Brian and Sarah always found themselves friends with people of all different backgrounds, interests and ideas. They were able to go from group to group and both had well-rounded peer relationships. Brian and Sarah have an intense interest in the world, traveling and learning about different cultures, architectures and food.
