Meet Brianna Henderson of LetsTalkPPCM in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Henderson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brianna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It’s been reported that the U.S. has the worst rate of maternal death in the developed world. I started my Non-profit organization LetsTalkPPCM after learning of a misdiagnosis that caused my sister’s death three years before I was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. I was given a 50/50% chance to live two months after the birth of my baby girl. My hospital nurses were a big help in getting me the confidence I needed to begin this journey. Almost four years later, I’m thriving and enjoying life! I now spread awareness for Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) for the sake of my sister, other women who have lost their lives, and women who may develop it in the future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, everything has been going smoothly. I have met a lot of women with PPCM who are willing to share their testimonies. Family, friends, and other people around the world have been a huge help on helping us bring awareness to the condition.

We’d love to hear more about LetsTalkPPCM.
LetsTalkPPCM is a nonprofit organization that brings awareness to Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, an induced heart condition found in pregnancy or the months following birth. We share countless stories of PPCM patients, provide education to the public, treatment plans for newly diagnosed women, increase scientific research studies, and fundraising. I am the Founder and President. I’m apart of many meetings, speaking opportunities, features, news articles and do the best I can as a patient advocate. My determination is what I feel best sets me apart.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up was a little difficult since I lost my mom at 12 from breast cancer. It really numbed me as a teenager and I struggled with it often. Overall I was a cool, funny, and good-hearted person to be around. If there was anything I wanted in life, I was determined to go after it.
