Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Hartwell.
Bridget, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved up from Houston, TX in 2008. I have always enjoyed the beauty industry and everything that goes with it! Moving from Houston was a big change in my life. It was also during a time that I was unsure of where I was going personally and professionally. I had worked at one other salon for a short while before I found my true salon home at Captiva. Captiva Salon and Spa was opened in 2010 by Sherry Sanders. She has been the sole owner since then. From the moment I met her and saw how she ran her business, how she believed a business should be ran, the loving care and support she put in to it, I knew I was in the right place.
Finding Captiva is what I consider the turning point in my career and also helped shape who I am today. Finding who you are behind the chair and outside the chair is never an easy task. It took time, mistakes and self-forgiveness of those mistakes to be able to grow into a stronger stylist/manager and individual.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say life is really never a smooth road! There are always bumps, curves and detours that we have to navigate.
I would say some of the struggles I encountered over the ten years I have been with Captiva is having that constant confidence in myself that I can help successfully grow our business and stylist. It can be nerve-racking at times when you know what is at stake. You want it to be everything that you, your owner and team have dreamed of.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Captiva Salon and Spa is privately owned by in my humble opinion, one of the best owners/bosses I have ever worked for. Mrs. Sherry Sanders. I feel our whole salon environment and culture comes straight from her.
I have happily been a stylist here for ten years and helped her manage the salon the last five years. I have become to be known as a stylist who enjoys complete complete color transformations and corrective color. I really have enjoyed diving deeper into the business side of management the last few years and hope to continue expanding my knowledge in that area. I love be able to lead a group of very talented stylist and help them achieve their personal career goals.
I am very proud to say that Captiva is a company that believes in and supports their employees on all levels. We are a team and a salon family. We encourage growth, we help other when one needs it and we cheer on the success of others. With that firm standard we hold as a business it creates a fun and welcoming environment to our clients!
We really strive for our guest to walk in and feel at home! Like they just walked into a friend’s house they haven’t seen in a while ready to have a few laughs, good conversation and leave with a smile. Plus, of course leave feeling/looking like a million bucks. Our guest work hard and we want them to know that they made the right choice by coming to spend their time and money with us.
What were you like growing up?
Man, I was a hyper child! I was always into everything, a real busy body. Very headstrong too, so basically their perfect combination. I enjoyed anything active from karate, gymnastics, dancing and swimming. My parents were amazing and did the best they could to help me burn off that energy. I still do enjoy a range of physical activities.
