Meet Britney Orina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Orina.

Hi Britney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I’ve always been a creative butterfly. Whether it was singing, dancing, drawing, or writing-I did it all and loved it all. However, being first generation, I was expected to grow up & pursue the ideal careers of becoming a: doctor, nurse, or lawyer. Despite that being in mind, I knew I could never see myself in those careers, so I treaded lightly by wanting to become an artist of any form that my heart desires. My early teenage years, I was invested in the idea of becoming either a journalist due to my love of writing mixed with my social skills or an interior designer because of my passion for designing spaces regardless of the context. This all changed when I became 14 and got my very first DSLR camera. That camera changed the whole projection of my life and means of expression when it comes to art. Prior to that, I was practicing and playing around with off-brand Photoshop apps-exploring different art styles & techniques without even realizing that this is a form of art known as graphic design. This combined with my training in photography as well as my own personal experience led to a gateway of allowing me to use various media & mediums for my artwork. From creative directing, photography, set design., graphic design, cinematography, writing, painting, and more-I love it all. This gateway has allowed me to explore and create conceptual pieces from the age of 16 and until now as well as gaining me access to zine publications at that early age til then. I’m beyond thankful for my journey as an artist because this is just the beginning of my long-life path in creating-not for others but for myself. I find fulfillment in making my dreams and visions into fruition which as gained me multiple opportunities. From collaborations with Dallas very own RODEO Skate to Tha Pixie Pound, FNL0SERZ, Jawbreaker Zine, Flurry Lifestyle, and more.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a smooth yet hard road in my creative journey. From learning various mediums, artist blocks, a couple of try & fails, as well as trying to be consistent in creating has caused adversities for me. However, this becomes a smooth road with the love and support from my friends & family. As well as the security of knowing despite being first generation, I’m supported behind my decision of wanting to create as my life choice for income.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a visual artist based here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I specialize in photography, graphic design, set design & creative directing. This, along with my educational background at Wade College, has allowed me to branch into branding, marketing, and product design, which has enhanced my work that’s clientele based. I’m most known for my conceptual photography and eye-catching graphic design pieces, which makes me the proudest being known for what I do and what I make. That and my ability to explore, discover and create in various mediums or art styles sets me apart. Whether it’s conceptual photography to mixed media pieces to even snippets of cinema-I try it all, I do it all.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is the feeling of not just contentment but proudness. Being proud of what you created, what it stands for, how you created it, and seeing how to public reacts to it-good or bad. Seeing that same work, creation or invention become long-lasting even after your lifetime for generations to come is success. Even the happiness you get from just simply completing and achieving goals is success to me.
