Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Merida.
Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello! I am better known as Merida B.
I am a God-fearing, visionary, entrepreneur and Bow Tie Extraordinaire. I specialize in custom handmade Bowties and accessories which are crafted here in my studio in Austin, Texas.
Merida. B was established in 2011, I was attending Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and needed a bowtie for an event I went shopping for a tie or cute eccentric neckpiece and was unable to find anything I liked, so me being me, I decided to go home and attempt to make one lets just say it was a beautiful disaster, lol, but it gave me an idea I started finding and purchasing all types of fabrics and wearing bowties almost daily then my classmates and teachers begin to ask me where I got my ties from and who designed them from that it gave me the idea of transforming it into a business I was already known around campus for my unique style and vintage fashion so the ties just added that complete pop.
On October 12, 2012, I opened my first clothing boutique where I sold Vintage clothing, Bowties and accessories I was scared for my life but it ended up being a complete hit, I ran the boutique until I graduated college and from there I ventured off to Houston and Dallas, Tx… Mesquite to be exact, I constantly involved and surrounded myself with other creators, attended ad involved myself in many events, push my brand out there and it very vastly grew It definitely was hard times revisiting the vision, making adjustments and changes but I never gave up and never lost the faith in God or myself and times that I wanted to give up, I simply didn’t. I had to tell myself it was ok to take breaks, try again, and keep pushing most of all praying through the process.
Here is a timeline of things that I have been up to lately:
2017, I got invited to New York for Fashion week, sold out my first SXSW Event H.U.E.
2018, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, I filmed a documentary with you do you media from Denver, Colorado.
I got invited to both Facebook and Google to showcase my items for various networking events.
2019, I recently was on studio 512 on KXAN News, I curated a fashion show Beards, Bowties & Bikinis.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having is going to be easy but I have definitely learned a lot along the way. One of my biggest challenges was charging my worth, I was always doing things for free or showing love until one day, when I was in between blessings, lol. I had to realize that I just gave away money, was sitting on money, created items that created revenue. Know your worth and add tax.

Merida. B Bowties specializes in Exclusive and Custom handmade Bowties and accesories. I design everything from Bowties, Headwraps, earring, purses and more. I’m on a mission to motivate the world to follow their dreams one bow tie at a time. The confident patterns and unique textures make these multifaceted designs stand out, in more ways than one.
I think what sets them apart are the Bold prints, patterns and shapes I do not only design standard-sized ties but also oversized and one of a kind styles and designs.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think one of the proudest moments in my career would be the most recent Fashion Show I curated Beards, Bowties, and Bikinis, it consisted of nine amazing designers, over 60 models and we had such an amazing turnout. I don’t know what I was thinking, designing and planning an entire event but I did it and I was so very proud of myself, it took many late nights and early mornings and sometimes, no sleep at all, but I set my mind out to do it and exceeded the goal.
