Meet Brittany Smith of SUSIEMANIA in Central Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Smith.

Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, I spent summers with my grandparents. My grandfather worked closely with New York Fashion designer Victor Costa/Terry Costa. I would go on varies trips with them from transporting fabric to their downtown Dallas manufacture to delivering finished products to their showroom/retail store in north Dallas. Along with my grandmother, being a seamstress making her own Sunday’s best along with a number of my clothes growing up, brought me to take the path of being a designer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, it’s been a bittersweet journey, the bitter part is executing a sketch or vision finding the right shape and size model. The sweet part is sketching and having the dope vision. Some struggles I have encountered would be the fit of a garment, simply because depending on the shape and size of the model the designer has to make changes in regards to measurements which sometimes can be a big job.

Please tell us about SUSIEMANIA.
SUSIEMANIA does custom women’s garments, taking a trend and adding a twist on it, SUSIEMANIA specialty would be to have a woman in something sophisticated for her 9-5 to a garment in which she can let her hair down at happy hour with the girls. What I’m most proud of as a company is how personal I can get with a client and really see what type of garment fits their style and personality during one on one consolation. What sets SUSIEMANIA apart from other is that we assure our clients won’t have one anything seen in stores.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
A favorite childhood memory would have to be when my grandmother was allowed to take scrap fabric and show me how to make shorts and I wore them until they busted.
