Today, we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Carter. Brooklyn was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Charity Jackson.
Brooklyn, thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
My story starts from humble beginnings, I started with less than 300 dollars in my account, & I just got home from college and I knew i needed to find a hustle that was going to help me mentally keep myself focused, and allow a small boost of income. I didn’t think that I would be supported considering how much of an introvert I’ve always been, and how I felt like I didn’t have a lot of supporters in my area. I didn’t let that stop me, so I took a huge risk and invested in accessories and lashes, which took off more than what I expected. After continuously doing school, working full time, and running this, my mom lost her job and I needed to help her with the bills because we were displaced. I had to come up with another stream of income and something that would distract from the sadness I was feeling about my situation. We had to move to Las Vegas Nevada, because it was the only place with career opportunities for my mom, and that’s where I started brainstorming my hair company. I worked hard and helped my mom and sister sustain until we could make it back to a stable point, and we came back to our home town to become back in a familiar place. Once I started doing photo shoots for my company and advertising myself, I started gaining more attention with my target audience and making more money. I had a lot of trials and obstacles, which caused me to change up the ways I chose to run my business, and to help my customers find the right products from them. For a while I was battling with my time, because I was so busy with school and working, I decided to do something more time friendly to add to my sources of income. This year In February, I started my own company skinned, and I have gained so much more support, and audiences to Appeal to, which shows me how much I’ve grown. I started from a rough place and made nothing out of something, allowing me to continue to support myself and my family. I don’t ever plan on being displaced again, because my mentality about working is harder than my desire to have fun. Everyone I ever talk to, and tell them what I do says I’m a hustler and I would humbly agree. I try my hardest to make it, because something inside me refuses to quit and also I know I’m going to make it someday. I hope to spread awareness about small business owners with depression and anxiety, as well as not giving up on your dreams even when life gets hard. All of my friends I’ve met in the last year, most of my friends, especially Charity has been one of my number one supporters that’s helped me come up with new creative ideas and kept me from stopping even when I wanted to. Without the few people around me believing in me like my mom, my sister, and my closest friends, I wouldn’t be able to push myself past all these hard times, and the past experiences and social groups that I’ve been in.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
Professionally I am a full time student, I work for a Bank full time, and I manage all of my small business inquiries on all of my social media platforms. Eventually I look to graduate with my Master’s degree in social work, and open my own online store front, as well as continue my online hair business. I look forward to opening my website next year, for people to shop for unique basics and neutrals that is inclusive to all sizes. To expand on that, I think this is what sets my business apart. My boutique, “Skinned Fashion”, is a clothing brand that takes variety to a whole new level. It incorporates inclusivity with shades of browns and neutrals to go with any brand or outfit at an affordable price. It’s made to shape all body types, and go with any skin undertones to highlight skin tones and point out the right curves! On top of everything I do, I try to model locally in my free time, as well as participate in worldly issues and try to give my resources to help in the community. I’ve modeled professionally for other brands as well as for my own brand and I have a great relationship with other photographers in my area. I love that my business is inclusive and the clothes are versatile items that can be worn all times of the day and dressed up or down. I love that my business has stamina and that I tend to the needs of my customers to try to provide the best customer experience. I think that, the most influential reason for people to come back to my brand and shop is because of the ease of purchase and the quality of the products as well as the hospitality. I hope that people see I appreciate their support and im trying to get to the top in the most humble way.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Charity Jackson and Charity Co. Collection and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Charity Co. Collection .
When I first discovered Charity’s brand, I was amazed at the attention to detail and the quality of the content for her products. Before you even buy the products, the pictures and videos that she makes are the most appealing videos that make you feel like you need every product! The first thing you think when you shop with her brand, is that “this person cares about their brand and what they sell” and that’s what I love about it the most. Most of the time you see people selling things for the profit and not building a brand that makes them look professional or accommodating. Charity’s company does all those things. Not to mention, the actual products, like the lashes and lip glosses are top quality and delivered with the upmost care. Specifically the lashes last a whole entire year with proper use from personal experience as well as, her lip gloss which provides the perfect blush for a natural lip look. Although Charity’s brand expresses excellence and professionalism, her personality in her personal life is beyond all the positive things about her brand. She is the most kind, respectful and beautiful person I’ve ever met in and out. She supports all of the people she loves and puts them in a position to motivate and challenge them to do great. Not only is her sense of fashion phenomenal, she has an incredibly big heart and she’s humble with her success. Everyone needs a Charity in their lives!
