Meet Brooks Burris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooks Burris.

Brooks, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for photography has been evident from a young age. I always took lots of photos with disposable cameras at concerts and while hanging out with friends throughout junior high and high school. When I got the first iPhone, I started to take even more pictures since film wasn’t an issue anymore. When I started sharing my photos on social media, people would compliment the angles I would choose for the photos and tell me I have an “eye for photography.” When my daughter was born and we were paying for milestone pictures fairly often, I told myself it was time to invest in a nice camera and follow my passion that had been there the entire time.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been fortunate to not have many bumps along the way so far but with anything in life, there is bound to be moments that will be tough. If anything, I’m hard on myself and very competitive but I think that’s an important part of continuing to get better and move forward. I always try to stay positive and take smart risks that I enjoy.

Please tell us about Brooks Burris Photography.
My photography business, Brooks Burris photography officially launched in February of 2018 and had a more successful first year than I ever imagined. Letting my strong passion for music guide me, I found myself taking photos of local musicians. Fort Worth’s Tex Mex honky-tonk band the Squeezebox bandits gave me one of my first live music gigs at the Longhorn Saloon in the stockyards. Not long after, I was lucky enough to join the Afallon productions family downtown Fort Worth and became the house photographer at Fort Worth Live, an intimate live music venue downtown. I also enjoy doing Family and event photography as well as some promotional photography for companies like Mother Beverage and Sully’s BBQ. I know most photographers have a niche, but I don’t want to limit myself to a certain type of photography just yet.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
The Culture of Fort Worth is extremely rich and provides a great backdrop for any type of art. Everything is growing at a rapid pace in this city and I’m excited to be along for the ride. I realize I’m a small fish in a big pond but try my best to connect with people on a personal level rather than just business and do the best job I can at each gig.
