Meet Bruce Rubio of Casa View

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Rubio.

Hi Bruce, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Every weekend around 2015-16 I would be posted up late with the homies drinking and smoking, and eventually, without fail, someone would start freestyling to one of the songs playing and it would snowball into a full-blown freestyling session with everybody taking turns spitting shit.

Before that, I never even thought about rapping. I’m a metalhead at heart. But it kind of came effortless for me… so after a few of those weekends, having a roomful of peers legitimately impressed with my flows I decided to write something down and take it to my buddy Franko who had engineered songs for popular Dallas artist Lil 2z and my first ever song on SoundCloud got like 2000 plays in one day and I was like damn this is fun. Not only for me but the people who actually listened to the song, since they were running it back so much.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I mean, I really didn’t take making music serious until after I got arrested in 2017. The charges made it hard for me to land jobs that weren’t labor intensive so when I got out, I started investing more time and money into creating music, merch, and content. With the hopes of it one day taking me off these construction sites.

The hardest part is funding everything because I actually work for my money… but that’s life so I’m not complaining.

I don’t expect things to come easy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make music. Particularly rap, but I grew up a metalhead listening to rock, so it has always felt weird to say, “I’m a rapper.” I’m still getting used to it.

I like to call my music “Intellectual Trap Music” because I try to speak from the perspective of a kid who grew up around drugs and drug dealers but is book smart enough to touch on topics like politics, mental health issues, and poverty while being as original as possible. THAT is what I’m most proud of.

I believe what sets me apart from others is I won’t say things in my songs that aren’t true just to sound cool.

For example, I don’t talk about driving foreigns and spending thousands of dollars every day, because I don’t… And when I hear people say that type of shit in songs KNOWING damn well, they don’t either it makes me see them in a way that I personally wouldn’t like my music to be seen.

So instead, I try to tell my own real-life stories…

I rap about cruising in my Cadillac or my Chevy and about the things I felt like I had to do in order to financially survive the struggles I was born into. A lot of people out here trying to fake it till they make it, and I just can’t do that. My art means more to me than looking cool

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I gotta give credit to my friend Edgar Torres. If it weren’t for him convincing me to go record at Frankos crib, then I never would have dropped a song on SoundCloud and seen the response it got.

He really is the first person on this planet to hear the talent I had.

Somehow, he knew before I did, and in my mind, I owe him a lot for that.

Second, I’d like to thank my long-time friend/ business partner, Fredo Arredondo aka Taliban. He’s the co-founder of Casa View Records. Which is my thr label I created and release music under.

When I was broke Fredo helped me stay in the studio and at video shoots. So, without him, I’d probably have had to put everything on the back burner so to speak.

Last and most importantly I’d like to thank my mother. I didn’t have a lot growing up, but she always made sure my 2 brothers and I had what we needed, even if it means working 2 full-time jobs. And for that, I am eternally grateful. I like to think that if I hit the lottery and my music blows up, I would make sure she is financially set for life before I spend a dollar on myself.
