Today we’d like to introduce you to BryaceTodd Jones.
BryaceTodd, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After having multiple dealings with the Criminal Justice system in Texas and being on the wrong side of the law, there were a couple of events which spurred my thinking. I wanted to be better and to do better. I had taken so much from society and I wanted to be able to give back. Something I heard years ago kept repeating itself in my mind, “When you know better, you must do better.”
Being that I was an ex-offender, many doors were automatically shut to me. However, I knew I had something to offer and I decided to follow Les Brown’s advice: “When you seek opportunities and can’t find them, you must create them.” So, I started my own parole solutions business, Strategic Parole Solutions. Over the past 4 to 5 years, I’ve grown Strategic and my name into one of the Top 3 small companies inside the Texas prison system, and just recently launched a national newsletter, Parole News, which in the next 18 to 24 months will be one of the largest and most widely published paid subscription newsletters inside the thousands of prisons and jails in America.
Has it been a smooth road?
Getting to this point and place we’re currently in hasn’t been easy at all. Coming out of a criminal justice system that’s designed to break you and crush your dreams with so many obstacles in your path, you have to develop the ability to think outside the box, outside the norm.
There have been at least three times when I wanted to quit. But before I decided to lay down and quit, I discussed things with my wife, Melanie, as well as with my son-in-law, Ernest Musik. Although deep down inside, I knew this was my calling and purpose in life. I’d lost sight of the ultimate goal, which was and is to be a servant to Humanity by doing what I can to reunite families, and also by mentoring the men and women I was able to assist in gaining parole approvals for. I had to remind myself that service is most important. As one of my best friends reminds me constantly, “don’t just go through it, GROW through it!” I hung in there and stayed the course and it’s been beautiful to know I’ve been blessed to have such an impact on hundreds of lives.
Please tell us about Strategic Parole Solutions and Parole News.
I specialize in being human and having empathy for families who’ve been torn apart, sometimes for numerous years by the Criminal Justice system as it is currently set up. I consider myself as a Professional Parole Consultant not because of some law degree or other special training but because I personally went through it and grew through it. There’s not one judge, prosecutor, attorney, parole or probation officer you could name who’s ever been on parole, had to wear electronic monitoring devices, report once or twice a month, etc. I have and because of having to live and grow through such a challenge, I know what it takes to come out and not just rebuild but destroy and rebuild a positive, uplifting and life of service.
Here at Strategic Parole Solutions, I help and assist families to possibly bring loved ones home on parole. But it doesn’t stop there because I also mentor many of those I’ve assisted in coming home. For me, it’s not enough just to help them get out. My desire is to do what I’ve learned the hard way and work with them to stay out. The most important unit of any civilized nation is the family unit. So I work with my people to stay out and become strong family members again. This also sets me apart from 99 percent of the others working in this particular industry.
My proudest moment was when the State of Texas, the Texas Parole Board and Tarrant county awarded me with a successful achievement award. There were roughly 5003 people who could have been awarded, but only 112 of us received the award at the Tarrant County Success Celebration.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about the DFW area is its diversity. I’m originally from Odessa, Texas, so being here in the DFW area for the past six years or so has been an amazing experience. There’s so much to do and be involved in here. The opportunities are limitless as well.
What I like least is that we, the Cowboys, haven’t won any Super Bowls in over 20 years. But on a more serious note, it’s the gang mentality in the urban areas that I like least. I’m working on some strategies to hopefully get involved and develop plans to change the minds of the individuals who call the shots. We’ll see how that plays out over the next 2 to 3 years.
