Meet Brynn Heckendorn of Shout It Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynn Heckendorn.

Hi Brynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a part of the DFW event industry in some form or fashion since college. In my 20s, it was an exciting career driven by planning fabulous parties for some fabulous clients. When I started a family, I tried to keep up with the event industry lifestyle of networking events in addition to my already heavy workload. As time went on, the work-life balance became more challenging. Knowing the potential for burnout sparked a desire to find an avenue with events that allowed for more free time.

My most recent position was running a successful venue in the heart of Dallas. I truly loved what I was doing. During this time, I had a lot of life changes that led to an idea to add a side business. Shout It Dallas was born from my event industry knowledge and my husband’s entrepreneurial spirit. It was roughly 9 months in the making and launched in December 2o21. I was able to take a concept that was growing in popularity but had limited options in the Dallas market and create a business. I knew what I didn’t like about the existing inventory and was able to relay this to my husband who worked with a manufacturer to produce what we currently book for our Shout It Dallas marquee clients. We have been lucky to have already worked at some amazing locations and with some incredible clients and vendor partners this past year! We owe a lot of our success to my launching pad at my venue and many industry connections!

As this side business grew, it became clear there was an option to work for myself. In April 2022, I took Shout It Dallas full-time to allow more time to do what I love most-spending time with my family. With three boys at home and their demanding schedules, I love the flexibility that this fun business has allowed! We look forward to seeing how Shout It will continue to grow and continue to be exactly what we need at this stage in life!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been some ups and downs with visibility as we’ve learned the best way to establish brand awareness in the Dallas market. It almost came too easily early on, and then we hit a rough patch shortly after I decided to focus on the business full-time. After several months of trial and error with different platforms, we finally found an advertising formula that seems to work best for Shout It. Since social media has become such a widely used platform for our industry, there is still a lot of room for growth. We are very thankful for our Dallas community & referrals that have led to some incredible opportunities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The most exciting part about launching Shout It was knowing exactly what we wanted for the inventory that our clients would be renting. After researching the few marquee companies in Dallas, we found a sign manufacturer that allowed us to customize every aspect of the letters. We selected the font, the material, the color-changing bulbs – even down to the weight for mobility during set up. We wanted to make sure the quality was up to the standard we would want for our own personal use!

We created a few standards for our business model that set us apart from other marquee businesses. Our packages are based on the number of letters – the idea for our clients is to think big with their phrases. To Shout It loud for their guests!

We also do not offer numbers at this time. We are not opposed to it but when we launched Shout It, we had dreams of providing large phrases to top Dallas clients such as the Dallas Mavericks and national corporations. We have achieved these goals with the inventory we currently have!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We hope that the marquee letter trend continues but the great thing about the event industry is there is always something for somebody. We might be in higher demand for corporate clients right now, but the wedding and social events market is always thriving as well. We left our branding opening to adapt with event signage as the industry evolves. We have already added another unique rental item with our El Arroyo-style marquee sign, but mobile for your personal events!
