Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvin Brown Jr.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Having my own clothing brand has always been the goal since high school. I wanted to be different and never follow the new wave. I really shop to catch what’s fashion forward or a timeless item. Now, since I started the brand GETPHRESHCREW, I wear my own clothing line daily and encourage everyone to GETPHRESH daily.

Growing up, my parents always kept me and my sista well dressed… we weren’t well off or anything but my parents taught us PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING. My pops always stayed sharp, always kept his shoes shined, taught me how to iron better than the dry cleaners and always had a nice timepiece. My mother was always dressed to impress like the QUEEN she is…She carried herself with respect and my sista kept that tradition going.

The GET PHRESH CREW vibes began in high school when I started working at Finishline Shoe Store and being able to save my own money… my mother was not buying me a pair of Air Jordan’s… so, I had to make k-Swiss and Reebok’s look dope freshmen year… it’s all about how you put it together. People don’t have to know the price as long as it looks nice.

As a kid, I always watched the stars and the different styles they wear… wishing I could dress PHRESH all the time too. My uncle passed and my older cousin moved in for a little while. To me, my cousin been PHRESH my whole life. Always had the shoes and clothes. “So, his first week living with us, me and a couple of friends take turns driving to school and one day we all had that same shirt on because some sneakers came out and we all had the same shirt so if we gonna wear it… let’s all rock it at the same time, so folks at school won’t think we sharing… mind you, I went to a school know as FLYLINE a high school fashion show where seniors dressed like grown-ups. Before I could drive off he asked me to come in the house made me change and told me never dress like anybody always stand out and make ’em look twice”… from that day forward, I tried to not wear anything twice and I’m was always my friends personal stylist not because I had style because I want everybody around to be PHRESH if we moving as a unit… we have to be PHRESH.

In college, we started throwing parties and the bouncer at the club asked me who are y’all I replied the GET PHRESH CREW with Klean Kut Promotions from that day forward I was determined to make the CREW stay PHRESH every time we step out… by any means. Once the party life died down and I left college my mind was really set on getting a clothing brand started but I didn’t know what to do… I have a management company called GETMOEent and I ordered merchandise for my brand GME it was poorly done and I didn’t like the look so a good friend of mine had a heat press machine So, I would go over her house attempt to do it then she take over showing me how to create my own designs and I would keep her up til 3 am every other night till one day she said you need to get your own stuff… she told me what I needed my business partners helped me get everything… we, then, designed a logo, began designing styles I wanted and the seed was planted. GET PHRESH CREW was in full production. We have been growing ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road… it’s always days when you feel like you going nowhere fast, but it’s only because we sometimes, can’t see the growth while growing.

Starting off, it was very difficult understanding what direction to go, how to get the best quality products and what target market to focus the brand towards. Once I put the brand out, the support started coming from my social media platforms. I noticed this might just work… I wanted to build an organic brand and I didn’t want to rush the process. People support the brand just over thinking slows down the progress.

My company is GET PHRESH CREW, a clothing line that represents the PHRESH culture that dares to be different.

I’m the CEO & Designer of the brand GET PHRESH CREW… I specialize in marketing and I’m known for being a people’s person… communication is key.

GET PHRESH CREW is most proud of the growth within the company… I have a dope vision for the company as it grows.

We just want the consumer to wear the brand and let it represents the PHRESH culture that stays in there on the lane but stands out.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over today, I would change nothing, I learned so much during the process and I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything.
