Meet Bino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bino.

Bino, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Music is something that’s always been a major factor in my life. Whether it was getting a playlist together for a sporting event, finding music to play in the car etc.. I also played in the band in middle school but was too focused on sports and never thought that I’d be returning to play any kind of instrument after that. I started making music after transferring to UNT in 2013-2014. The creative spirit there is something I had never been exposed to. Surrounded by creative individuals from graphic designers to photographers to models to producers. It was contagious and I began to become very interested in trying something new. I had lived such a limited life up until then and wanted to step out of my comfort zone for a change. One day one of my closest homies I’ve known for years, Will also known as Chilly, asked me to help him make a beat and after that, I was hooked. From that day on, I began making beats all day every day. Whatever I was doing, I tried to get done as fast as possible so I could get back to making music. Learning something new every day while also learning a lot about the type of music I really like is some of the main things that really drove me and still drives me today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been easy that’s for sure, but I’d say it’s been an interesting and challenging journey. Challenges and obstacles are what make you appreciate how far you’ve come. Networking is very essential which is something i had to work on and am still working on. It just gets exhausting trying to depict the real ones from the ones that aren’t that serious in all this. Other than that, some of the main challenges I’ve come across have mainly been dealing with me. There are days where I may not be feeling as creative and I use to look at that as such a negative. But you just have to keep reminding yourself that just because you’re not feeling as creative in that moment doesn’t mean you’re not great at what you do. Just may mean that you need to take a break, walk away from it and come back to it. Whether it’s an hour or 2 or a day or 2.

Tell us about your work – what should we know?
I’m a producer, recording engineer, freelance model and have recently gotten into acting as well. I definitely have more experience with producing than anything else and that is what I’m mainly known for. I’m not close where I wanna be but I’m definitely proud of how I’ve come. I’m specifically most proud of the ep that I’ve dropped with my cousin coach tev called I fell in love with my mistress. It’s our first project together and it’s also the first project I’ve put out.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Definitely gotta give credit to my family for supporting me through my journey thus far. My best friends Jason, will and rei altru. My cousin Coach tev. All were a huge factor when it came to inspiration and support. Always pushing me to expand my abilities and knowledge. Definitely have to credit a few of my favorite producers which are Timbaland, Pharrell and Zaytoven. Timbaland and Pharrell just for the simple fact that their range is just out of this world and the overall energy that their tracks bring is just too crazy. Zaytoven is who introduced me to wanting to play the piano. The melodies he puts on those drums is something I’ve never heard.
