Meet Cameron Cooper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Cooper.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started my photography journey as a freshman in high school. I took a photography course where we learned to shoot film and develop the negatives in a dark room. I fell in love with the process and art form. I spent the next 2-3 years photographing families, seniors, weddings, and any gig possible to help build my craft. In the summer of 2013, I started a full-time job at a local photography studio. I worked there a few years, but It wasn’t long before I got the business owner itch, eventually starting a wedding photography company alongside my day job. Building the business was slow at first, but in 2017 I was able to transition from my studio job to photographing weddings full time. It’s almost been three years now since making the decision to become a business owner, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a Dallas based photographer specializing in capturing weddings, engagements, bridals, and elopements. I am a huge extrovert and love meeting new people, so this was a major driving force for starting my business. I have the unique opportunity to meet new people every single week and hear their stories. It’s even more amazing to document one of the most important days of their lives. My hope is that the couples I photograph will share the images from their day for years and years. I remember looking through my parent’s wedding album as a kid and having so much fun hearing their stories from back then. I have a soft spot for nostalgia, so helping other people share those memories is something I truly treasure.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I believe it has changed for sure. For instance, It’s only been a few years since same-sex marriage was legalized in the U.S. My wife and I are in full support of same-sex marriage and allowing anyone to have the same rights to marry their partner. But in our industry, this is still a hot issue. I personally know a few photographers who choose not to capture same-sex ceremonies because of their religious beliefs. I understand that point of view, but I could never tell someone “No” when it comes to supporting love. It’s so heartwarming to look on platforms like Instagram or The Knot and see so many creatives coming together to celebrate all different kinds of love. To think that this was impossible up until a couple of years back is so mind-blowing and it’s so amazing to be creative during this part of history.
