Today we’d like to introduce you to Camp Bond.
Camp, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a music producer since I was 14 years old. I started off making beats with my cousin Brayson. He taught me how to structure a song. I was in the band in high school (Cedar Hill High School). I was in Drumline. I started in the music industry producing music for the artist in Dallas, such as Liv Free, Kaos Caine & Jayson Lyric and more. I’ve worked with a lot of artists here. I’ve been on the Dallas music scene since I was 18 years old. I’ve participated in beat battles, producer showcases and many other events to get my name out there. I devised a plan in my mind that to get where I’m trying to go, I would need to put myself in a position to meet the proper connections. So with that in mind, I pivoted into the promotions world, helping another company in Dallas with running and hosting events. I gained a lot of experience and connections while working with some of the music business’ best talent, such as Nipsey Hussle, Royce da 5’9, Kap G, Bun B, Joyner Lucas, Dave East and more. From there, with the help of my mentor Torrence Riff, I started my own company with my business partners Stephanie Eriksen and Brenda Rodriguez, called Blexx Entertainment. We put on over 25 events in 2019 and built our brand last year. We were nominated for “Rookie of the Year” for the Cosign Magazine Awards. However, as of January 1st, 2020, I, Camp Bond, am I the sole owner of Blexx Entertainment. My business partners have decided to depart from the company for different reasons. I am looking to move forward and continue to push the company forward. I will be adding a few legs of Blexx ENT, a record label, and a multi-media portion where we will have online content for our subs. I will be distributing music for the artist in Dallas to help them get their art out to a greater audience as well.
We have a very successful event called The Camp Out Beat Battle. Sixteen producers go head to head in 4 rounds of bracketed competition. This event has become a staple in the Dallas producer community. Our next battle is April 4th at Club DaDa in Deep Ellum. We have some huge sponsors on board for it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, its been a bumpy road, but that is the entertainment business. I’m constantly turned away, said no, and dismissed. I deal with people thinking they can get over on me… I deal with a lot. However, I’m in love with the journey. I appreciate the obstacles. They build character.
Blexx Entertainment – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Blexx Entertainment is a promotion/event planning company based in Dallas. We are known for putting on great events like art & fashion shows, beat battle for music producers, and concerts with national recording artists. I’m most proud of the name we have built-in such a short amount of time. We just got started in Feb 2019, and have since put on 25 events. What sets us apart from others is our genuine love for art and providing a platform for local talent.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far would be The Camp Out Beat Battle #1, August 31st, 2019. My grandmother had just passed away and I wasn’t able to process it at the time. I was concerned about how the event would go, and if people would even show up with it being the first beat battle, we have ever had. We had almost 400 people in the building that night, and it was a success.
