Meet Candace Mozingo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Mozingo.

Candace, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Having worked closely with home-builders and other realtors in the flooring industry for several years, transitioning to real estate was a natural move for me. I’ve enjoyed every moment of it since doing so, working with sellers, buyers and investors in residential sales, be it single or multifamily.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With everything in life, real estate has it’s ups and downs, as does any self-employment career. My most recent struggle was just last year, the summer of 2019. I lost both of my elderly dogs within a 6-month period and being a single woman with no kids, they were my world. It knocked me down for a few months and I really felt alone throughout it all. Truth be told, I got depressed and it did affect my business. It was not a graceful time in my life and I still tear up when talking about it.

As with all storms, it did pass, but not without some genuine self-reflection. I started making changes and became more invigorated with my desire to help others. I joined the local Kiwanis Club late last year and this spring, I created the Blessing Bag Broads, a group of ladies who get together each quarter to assemble blessing bags for the homeless. We built 25 bags in August and our goal for the winter assembly in November is to double that number.

Additionally, I’ve established a networking group, Business Networking in NE Tarrant, aka BizNET. We meet on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Tuesday each month at different locations in NE Tarrant. It’s an effort to spread the love around & support as many struggling diners/cafe’s as possible, on top of connecting like-minded business professionals who share a passion for giving back to their community & brainstorming with others to help support their businesses. We are all in a unique position to help others and offer honest feedback that helps them to grow & reach their full potential. For example, one of the members of BizNET was having a hard time coming up with social media content, so we scheduled a lunch date at her office. Myself & another BizNET member came along & over lunch, we all just put our heads together & came up with some exceptional ideas, including using her dog as a mascot. She’s been having tremendous success with it and is now posting engaging content daily. She went from a handful of followers to over 200 in a matter of weeks & she’s thrilled with it!

October is Domestic Abuse Awareness month so I put together a donation drive to raise awareness. I partnered with several companies to serve as donation stations to collect new and gently used purses that are filled with essential items, as many women escaping these situations do so with nothing but the clothes on their back and their children by their side. The drive will benefit the Battered Women’s Foundation of Richland Hills.

With the pandemic and looming election, this year has proven to be exceptionally difficult for everyone, both of which have made people feel isolated. I truly believe people want to help and do good, but I think they’re more inclined to do so when 1) it’s local & 2) they know exactly where their money is going. Everyone wants to live in a good community with a thriving economy and the great news is that we can if we only put forth the effort. Even better than that, when you support local, you get to reap the benefits of your contribution and you get to see all that hard work pay off when you watch those in your community succeed,

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am REALTOR® serving the DFW metroplex and surrounding areas, though I specialize in residential sales NE Tarrant County simply because I’ve called it home for so long. In my posts and advertisements, I’ll use the hashtag “profreshional” because I’m unconventional. I don’t feel like I fit the stereotypical realtor mold. I’m super laid back and down to earth, a bit goofy and sometimes clumsy. I’ve also got visible tattoos, laugh too loud and oftentimes, you’ll find me wearing chucks (Chuck Taylor Converse) over heels.

At this point, I’m most proud of the growth that’s taking place and the commitment to our communities. I’m working on expanding into Las Vegas, as well as growing a team here in DFW. The plan is to keep giving back and giving thanks, to help our local businesses succeed and our local economies thrive.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know that I’d call it luck so much as fate, but we’ve all been dealt bad hands at one time or another. Early on in my career, I was struggling and considered hanging up my license to go work for a home builder. As fate (or luck) would have it, my ex-boyfriend came back into the picture. He is now a mortgage loan officer, though when we met, he was a realtor himself and had inspired me to follow that path. Had it not been for his mentorship, I probably would not be an actively licensed realtor. His guidance & direction have been such a blessing!
