Meet Candice Wagner of CrossFit Iron Horse in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Wagner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Candice. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
CrossFit Iron Horse was formed and opened in 2010. I personally came on board as a coach and quickly came on board as an owner soon after. Today I am the co-owner and head coach of CrossFit Iron Horse. We’ve been voted as “Best of Fort Worth” by Fort Worth Magazine for 3 years and really pride ourselves on our community, coaching, and brand. We help our athletes move better, reach their health and fitness goals, and abide by appropriate lifestyle factors that will promote longevity.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think any business owner can attest to the fact that you’re going to make mistakes. For us, we’ve made mistakes in the past like offering programs we couldn’t sustain for the long term or that we didn’t run as smoothly as we could have. It was our immaturity and lack of experience in the business that caused problems, but that’s how you grow and develop as a business. Whenever we have made a mistake we have learned a great deal. We’ve learned to recognize it, make adjustments to resolve the problem, and we are always striving to be better.

CrossFit Iron Horse – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a community first. Our athletes refer to our gym as their second home and more importantly, their second family. They walk through our doors every day for a workout and we do our best to make that workout the best hour of their day. Our classes are based on the CrossFit methodology. Our workouts are different each day and consist of functional movement patterns that we are supposed to do as humans for survival. This includes squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting objects safely, running, rowing, etc. Once an athlete can show proficiency in a movement we add intensity. Intensity is what makes the program so effective, but it’s relative. Anyone can participate in our classes. We program our workouts for the elite of our gym and everyone from beginner to advanced works towards the elite program with adjustments made for all levels daily. We pride ourselves on quality coaching and our passion for health and fitness. It is the reason we have been voted the best gym in Fort Worth on three separate occasions and why our athletes hang out with each other on the weekends. Our community is one of a kind!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my profession, success might mean coming into the gym three days out of the week for a year. It might mean having the energy to play with your kids for an hour each day because you’ve been working out consistently. It might mean reaching one’s goal of performing their first strict pull up from a dead hang, something they never thought possible.

For me personally, success is doing what I love every day. Not everyone can say that and I feel very blessed.
