Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Mitchell.
Carla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been fascinated with jewelry making & crystals since I was a child. I remember making all kinds of bracelets and trinkets for fun and doing chores so my parents would get me more materials. My mother taught me about crystals early on- specifically about my birthstone-Amethyst- since we all shared the same one (mother, sister & I) I began to study the healing aspects of crystals in 2016 and a year later, Chiquita’s Treats was born.
I was spending at least one day a week in different crystal shops around the DFW- just learning about various gemstones and their purposes. While at work strangers would inquire about the various stones they would see when I wore them in a small cage, on a hemp necklace. I began to visit stores just to see the jewelry at this point! I was looking at things others weren’t. I then got on YouTube (because it’s free, ha! ) and started learning techniques, what materials to use, etc. This is where my hobby turned into a small business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely wasn’t smooth in the beginning, however, it has gotten easier. My pieces were struggling in the very beginning-! I had a lot of help from a branding coach (@liveloveyourpassion). There were days when I wanted to give up because starting a new business was costly and time-consuming. I had to remind myself, I wanted this! I had to learn how to balance my business with life in general. I’ve been blessed to be able to do so. If it wasn’t for my friends, family and mentors I wouldn’t have made it!

Chiquita’s Treats is a jewelry company that specializes in anything made with crystals. I’m known for my custom quartz bracelets, earrings & necklaces. I’m proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone to show the world my creative side. I’m honored that people think of me when they think of wanting a piece with crystals!’ Everything I craft is cleansed & made with healing intentions and love. My unique style of wrapping sets my pieces apart from others. I still have a long way to go and am excited to see where this journey takes me!
What were you like growing up?
I was obsessed with being outdoors in general anything pertaining to crafts and nature I wanted to be a part of. I loved to read & loved listening to music & singing with my twin sister.
