Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Walker.
Carla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
During the wedding planning process with my daughter, we collected quite a few fun items for her wedding and we were really able to get a pulse on what is currently popular with brides and the type of items that are in demand. We worked hard to find many of these items and also construct some which were hard to find, such as our Antique Bridal Entrance doors, which are currently very popular with brides. As a result, we have a large, fun collection of items to reflect the rustic, yet elegant look. I had so much fun planning and collecting with my daughter that I wanted to be able to share our hard-to-find collection, and in achieving the look we were wanting, this also inspired the idea of a rustic event venue which we plan to open in the near future.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, thing have gone pretty smoothly! I have worked hard to put together a website and advertising and to begin to reach out to brides in the DFW area for rental of our current inventory. But, as with any business, growth and getting noticed takes time! We have established a location for our future venue and have started the planning process for it, so waiting on the progress of our venue has been the hardest part so far in my opinion! We are ready to have it all in house in one location, using our unique rental items at our own central location!
Please tell us about Hill Country Barn.
At Hill Country Barn, we provide fun, rustic, yet elegant and trendy items for rental as centerpieces or accents for weddings or events. From our vintage antique chalkboard door photo backdrop, to mismatch antique china, Napa Valley wine barrels, our simple birch branch wedding arch, and antique chippy paint bridal entrance doors, we have several unique items to make wedding displays pop! Also, our customer service is something brides can relax with and count on. We will go the extra mile to make sure you have the items when you need them and for as long as you need them on your event day. We are a small company with personal service. You will usually see my husband and I meeting with you for set up on your event day, and we look forward to all of the different venues and places we visit along the way in the metroplex to provide our rentals. We are touched to see the items we worked hard to collect for our daughter’s meaningful day be put to use for other couple’s special beginnings! A side note about our name…as a child I spent meaningful time in the Hill Country and did not want to let this part of me go as an adult, so we currently have a small home in the Hill Country along the Guadalupe River. This area of Texas is so beautiful and different, and the rustic, elegant style in this area is distinct, particularly in wedding settings. We wanted to be able to bring some of the Hill Country charm to DFW and ultimately hope to make this impact complete through our future wedding venue.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have many favorite memories from childhood, it is hard to pick one! Aside from my love of reading books and visiting the Hill Country, my life long love of animals is undeniable, especially when it comes to cats! It is hard for me to say no to rescue animals or pets, and we are lucky to be able to provide a safe haven for several cats and chickens too! I also have great memories of elegant table settings by my mother and my aunt on holidays. I love being able to recreate this timeless elegance in our event rentals.
