Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Castillo.
Carlos, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Son of an immigrant family moved to Texas at a very young age. Grew up in Dallas, went to booker t Washington, a high school for the performing and visual arts. Studied set design, lighting design and technical production at Marymount Manhattan college. Spent some time in New York working. I moved back to Dallas permanently after traveling the world for two years. Got married shortly after and worked in the Dallas area. Projects I participated in during this time include lighting design for concerts and festivals, window display work for retail stores, production management for theatrical and dance shows. Scenic design for dance and theater. Carpentry first shows and tour management. All these different elements have played a role in the foundation of my company, Zero Productions. We, in some form or fashion, play a role in doing those things now under the umbrella of zero productions.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth journey. The largest obstacle personally has been the shift in careers. Becoming a business owner has forced me to grow and truly take on a whole new role. The financials of starting a business is always difficult. Proper management skills is difficult. It is my interest to have not just a profitable company but a good one. One person can be proud to be associated with it. Owning a business requires wearing many hats.
Please tell us about Zero Productions.
We work hard to promote other people’s businesses. The brand we build is yours. We specialize in custom one of kind props and scenic elements. Working hard to make the wildest dreams come true. We offer services in high-end retail displays. Show/event management. Design. We offer many services to expand other businesses.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. Everything has happened as it should, even the difficult parts.
