Meet Carlos and Carla Rodriguez of Cuates Kitchen in Dallas Forth Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos and Carla Rodriguez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our name is Carlos and Carla Rodriguez, and we are twins. In Veracruz Mexico, our hometown, Cuates means twins. Our passion has always been food. This started in Veracruz watching our Abuela and Abuelo make queso (the real kind), barbacoa, empanadas and homemade tortillas. Immigrating to the United States, our passion for food has continued. We have always been in the restaurant business including our parents. After much encouragement from friends and family who have tried our food, our family decided to take the plunge and start a food truck! So here you have it! Cuates Kitchen! It’s family-run, and I dare say the best damn Mexican food in Dallas. We serve authentic Veracruz food of which we think our abuelos would be proud. Come check us out or have us cater your next event. You won’t be disappointed!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitely been a journey, like anything else in life it has had it’s highs and lows. Starting off we realized we knew how restaurants operated but had very little knowledge as to the inner workings of the food truck industry. Obtaining permits, getting good gigs, having people try your craft, and having a consistent schedule were all challenges in the beginning. As time has gone on, our hard work is paying off. We park at some great places and have developed a FANtastic following!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cuates Kitchen – what should we know?
First and foremost everything is authentic! Every item on our menu is made fresh and by hand. Secondly, this is a family owned business through and through. My mother is the backbone of the kitchen. She continues to teach my sister and I the recipes from Veracruz that give Cuates it’s amazing flavor that makes us stand out from every other taco truck. We are proud of what we do and what we have created.

We also cater!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many people who have helped us on this journey and have pushed us to be where we are today. My Abuelo and Abuela first come to mind. In Mexico they instilled in us the love of food and the patience to make it right. Our friends and family, who encouraged us take the next step and start our own business. And most importantly shout out to our followers and our customers. They keep us in business and their continuous support and positive feedback keep us going.
