Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Schafer.
Hi Carly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been very active growing up and developed a passion for helping people in the health and fitness realm after witnessing my mom lose over 150lbs and also working 1:1 with athletes through my collegiate major in sports medicine.
I moved out to Denver Colorado after graduate school and began working as a personal trainer. I started to develop my niche within the training world as I slowly experienced having a family member succumb to Alzheimer’s disease, and I realized I wanted to focus on a whole-body approach, specifically nutrition and brain health. I moved to Cincinnati, Ohio within a couple years and then onto Dallas, Texas shortly after that.
Upon working with numerous nutrition clients, I realized there was a major gap between what people know they should be doing and actually taking the action and steps moving forward. I became intrigued by the psychology of habits, self-care, and stress management and decided to enroll in a 200-hour meditation teacher training course through Breathe Meditation and Wellness.
I started my company, AIM Wellness Consulting, in March of 2021 with an emphasis on 3 pillars of wellness: Movement, Nourishment, and Lifestyle. I believe we need to take a mind/body/spirit approach to our goals in order to truly change. I currently train clients at Park Cities Personal Training, I teach workout classes at Evolve in downtown Dallas, and I teach meditation at Breathe Meditation and Wellness, along with seeing clients virtually around the world.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. When I moved out to Denver, I couldn’t support myself doing just personal training, and I ended up working 3 jobs to make a living out there. Even in Cincinnati and my first couple of years in Dallas, I was never able to support myself on personal training alone, always having to work 1-2 extra jobs to make it by.
I left the corporate world of fitness to venture out on my own in 2018 and had all the struggles of attempting to train privately. I was able to stay on my feet and now have reached a great flow in my life between work and supporting myself financially. However, even with all my knowledge, I realized that sometimes we can’t even help the people closest to us… in summer of 2020, my sister was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis triggered by work stress and poor lifestyle choices. I know this will only continue to fuel my passion of learning and helping as many people as I can with their own brain health and goals.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about AIM Wellness Consulting?
My company name stands for Abundant and Infinite Mindset–something I believe we can all develop to help us reach any challenge and goal placed in our path.
I believe in a mind/body/spirit approach to health and fitness by being embodied in specific movement, practicing a low-inflammatory lifestyle through nutritional habits, and inviting in aspects of spirituality and self-care to help manage life’s stressors. I believe when we approach life from these 3 areas, we can support our brain in a way that allows us to make decisions that truly support our best self.
With movement, I believe in a conscious approach that challenges the body through different ranges of motion, and also building strength and resiliency with a balanced approach to strength training and mindful movement. With nutrition, I coach clients how to develop better habits in their approach to food through blood sugar management, thought-work, and stress management. With lifestyle, I teach clients how to calm down their nervous system through journaling, meditation, and breathwork.
What are your plans for the future?
For the future, I’m hoping to keep increasing my online presence through virtual coaching and collective programs. I am hoping to expand a wider reach and helping people take control of their results. I will be teaching a few workshops at Breathe in January and would like to continue to teach seminars to corporations and smaller businesses.
