Meet Carmen Aguilar-Sanchez of Bamboo Salon in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Aguilar-Sanchez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Carmen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been in the service of helping others. Whether that’s waiting on tables at restaurants, cooking, or assisting those who may not be as fortunate as I am. I came to this country with very little, hardly speaking English as well as others but thankfully, beauty is a universal language. I love glamour, I enjoy transforming, I love watching women of every age act out on their beauty, their allure.

For the longest time, I felt my best when I made others feel good. That still holds true! It became very easy to learn the language of glam, so when I finally launched my dream of going to beauty school, it was my ticket for success. The road from there has led me to meet the lovely people I work with today, learning skills that quite literally never go out of style. Doing lashes, cutting hair, became something which has become fruitful thanks to the young dreams I had when I first came to the US. it’s been a dream!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not.

Rejection was something I had to learn to go through in the beginning. Learning to handle disappointment was something that was necessary, but in the end, I’m thankful for the precious rejections.

I would not be where I am now if it wasn’t for all that redirection!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bamboo Salon – what should we know?
I’m primarily a hairstylist at Bamboo Salon. Although I cut hair, my main talent is coloring. I love experimenting with different techniques when it comes to delivering the kind of results my clients ask for — I believe that’s something that I can stand for.

I always aim for complete satisfaction, which is something the entire salon aims to hold up too. But I do believe we have the best crew as well, there’s never a dull moment! The personalities here is electric, we are always laughing and aiming to make our clients comfortable, and we believe that makes our customers come back for more.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Eden. He’s amazing. In a way, he’s been more than just a mentor. He makes me laugh and puts my mind at ease when I feel troubled. He always makes sure we are all in a comfortable setting. I adore him!

Also, I’ve known Rebeca for a while now, and I love to watch her work. I learn from her everyday, as it’s always refreshing to see from another set of eyes. I’m extremely grateful when she is able to offer insight.

I really believe the three of us make an amazing unit!

I would like to add one more person to give credit for my personal success. To my husband Luis E. For his support and love.
