Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Locke.
Carolyn, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first started modeling when I was a sophomore in high school just to help one of my friends build his portfolio since he’s an aspiring photographer. Not too long after one of my high school teachers told me I should think about going professional and she would be able to help me get started since she used to be a talent scout for my first agency, Page Parkes. She got me in touch with my agent and a little over a year I was officially signed to them. I started doing a lot of editorial work and some runway shows.
In May, I did this event called Agent Review where scouts from around the US come to look at models to see if they’re interested in signing any of them. From that, I got signed to my second agency, LOOK models in San Fransisco. I recently took a trip to LA where I got scouted by Genetic Models and a commercial agency called Osbrink Agency. In January, I’ll be going to LA for a month to work and I plan on taking a trip to New York next year to expand a little more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, I have been very lucky. Everything has just sort of come to me and I’m so grateful for it. One little bump was an agency in New York was very interested in me but then found out I was half an inch too short to do a lot of jobs out there. It also did take a year for me to first get signed because of distance (I’m in Dallas and my agency is in Houston) but with a lot of persistence it happened! I am very grateful for everything that has happened so far and I’m so excited for my unseen future!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I mainly do work for magazines that I get through my agencies. I have done a few runway shows but being 5’8 holds me back from a few shows. I’ve also done some commercials in LA which have been so much fun! I really didn’t have any interest in doing commercials until I got signed to my agency and now I really love doing them.
I’m very proud for how much I have done in the short year I’ve been signed. I had no idea I would do so much work so fast and get signed around the US within this amount of time. Some things that set me apart is my personality and my red hair. I’ve heard from about every photographer I’ve worked with has said that I’m a pleasure to work with and I know what I’m doing.
What were you like growing up?
I have been a music geek my entire life. My number one passion is performing with my band and going on tour which I’ve done twice so far. I have always been pretty extroverted, I really love meeting new people and hearing about their journeys. I also lived in Vienna, Austria when I was ten and I was there for about three years so I grew up around a lot of different culture shocks and seeing the majority of the world.
