Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Moorman.
Carolyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Counselor. I was a public school teacher for 20 plus years. I started working out of my home office seeing therapy clients while I still worked full-time as a school counselor for Carrollton Farmers Branch Independent School District back in 2014. Then, in June of 2018, I left education all together, and I work full-time as a counselor in a group in Carrollton at Lifeworks Counseling Center as well as seeing clients at my home office in East Dallas.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I first became a counselor, I wasn’t sure of my niche. I met a family court judge who started sending me couples going through divorce. I decided I would start seeing couples in counseling before they reached the point of a contentious divorce so that’s how I started in my small, home office just off Lower Greenville. Now, in my other office in Carrollton and here in East Dallas, I see couples and individuals.
There is a learning curve in how best to help struggling couples as well as deciding how many clients I can see in a day or a week. Now, I feel I’m in the “sweet spot” of my practice.
