Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Parrish
Hi Carolyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story really starts with a deep love for supporting women, especially during life’s big transitions. I started out as a life coach, working with women to uncover their purpose and step into their most authentic selves. Over time, I realized I was especially drawn to working with mothers – there’s just something so transformative about the journey into motherhood.
For me, becoming a mom was life-changing in ways I didn’t expect. It was beautiful and overwhelming all at once, and it really made me rethink who I was and what I wanted. That experience inspired me to create something that could truly support other moms as they navigate pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood.
That’s how Maiden to Mama came to life. I combined my coaching background with my passion for motherhood to create a space where women feel seen, heard, and empowered. Since then, I’ve expanded what I offer – I’m a birth doula, I provide prenatal Reiki, and I teach mindfulness-based birth prep classes. Everything I do is about helping moms feel confident and supported as they step into this new chapter.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. Seeing the impact I can have – whether it’s helping someone feel more grounded during pregnancy or helping a new mom find her rhythm – reminds me why I do this work. It’s truly an honor to be part of these journeys.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road – what worthwhile journey ever is? Starting my business while balancing motherhood has been one of the biggest challenges. As a mom of two young boys, life is beautifully chaotic, and there are days when it feels like there’s just not enough time or energy to give everything my all. I’ve had to learn how to set boundaries, prioritize self-care, and be okay with things not always being perfect.
One of the biggest struggles was finding my voice and my niche. There’s so much noise out there, especially in the world of motherhood and coaching, and it took time for me to figure out how to stand out while staying true to myself. I’ve also faced the typical challenges of running a small business – figuring out marketing, balancing work and family, and navigating the ups and downs that come with being an entrepreneur.
But honestly, those struggles have been such important lessons. They’ve helped me grow, both personally and professionally, and have shaped the way I approach my work. I think those challenges make me more relatable to the women I work with because I get what it’s like to feel stretched thin or unsure of your next step. It’s all part of the journey, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is all about empowering mothers through every stage of their journey, from pregnancy to postpartum and beyond. Whether I’m supporting a mom as a birth doula, teaching childbirth education, or providing Reiki sessions, my ultimate goal is always to guide her back to her own intuition. I believe every woman has a deep, inner wisdom that knows exactly what she needs, and my role is to hold up a mirror so she can see that strength and clarity within herself.
As a life coach and doula, I don’t give women the answers – I help them uncover their own. Whether it’s navigating the uncertainties of motherhood or finding peace in the postpartum period, I offer the tools, guidance, and support to help them connect with their true nature. That’s what makes this work so powerful: when a woman learns to trust herself, that confidence radiates through every aspect of her life.
I’m proud of the confidence I help women discover in themselves. There’s something so rewarding about seeing a mom step into her power and realize she’s capable of so much more than she thought. It doesn’t just impact her during pregnancy or birth – it spills over into her relationships, her career, and the way she shows up in the world. That kind of transformation pays dividends for years to come, and knowing I get to be part of that journey is what keeps me so passionate about this work.
Ultimately, whether I’m offering prenatal Reiki, practicing traditional postpartum belly binding, or coaching a mom through the transition into motherhood, it’s about helping her reconnect with who she is at her core. Every woman’s journey is unique, and I’m honored to walk alongside them as they discover their strength and embrace the beauty of this season in their lives.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is the power of surrender and trust – not just in the process but in life itself. Life is full of transitions and transformations that require us to step into the unknown. Whether it’s becoming a mother, starting a business, or facing unexpected challenges, I’ve come to see these moments as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles to overcome.
This lesson has been especially profound in my work. As a doula and coach, I’ve realized that my role isn’t to create a perfect path for the women I work with but to support them as they navigate their own unique journeys. Every experience, even the ones that don’t go as planned, holds meaning and value. I aim to help women find that meaning, trust their intuition, and uncover the strength they didn’t know they had.
I’ve also learned to apply this lesson to my own life. There have been times when I’ve doubted myself or felt overwhelmed by the responsibilities of motherhood and running a business. But instead of resisting those feelings, I’ve learned to lean into them, listen to what they’re teaching me, and trust that even the hardest moments have something valuable to offer.
What I’ve found is that surrendering to the process often leads to the most profound transformations. It’s not about controlling the outcome; it’s about being present, finding the deeper meaning, and trusting that we are equipped to handle whatever comes our way. This lesson has shaped how I show up in my work and life, and it’s something I hope to pass on to every woman I support.
