Meet Carolyn Stovall

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Stovall.

Carolyn Stovall

Carolyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am the Author of A Texas Gal Cooks Cookbook. My biggest dream was to write a cookbook. My passion is cooking and experimenting with making new recipes. I spent so much time writing and designing my cookbook. I love being creative.

When I finished my cookbook, and actually started selling it was my dream come true. I have gotten so many opportunities to promote and sell my cookbook, “A Texas Gal Cooks.” I finished my cookbook about a month before The State Fair of Texas Opened. I contacted the Go Texan Store at the fair. They called me back and said that they would be happy to sell my cookbook in their store.

I sent the Go Texan Store pictures and my story. I was thrilled to sell my cookbook at the fair, and I considered it such an honor to be the new author and author of my first book. I joined the Go Texan Group, and I got so many wonderful opportunities from being a member. I could not believe how many things that Go, Texan members, offered to promote my career.

They have Vendor information about shows all over Texas. Go Texan members are offered discounts on many of the Vendor booths. They are a great Texas Organization. My next big “WOW” came when The Texas Association of Authors chose “A Texas Gal Cooks Cookbook” for “Best Cookbook of Texas.” Believe me, I was on “Cloud 9” when I received that award. I felt like a celebrity!

Now, I want to tell you about my famous cookbook. “A Texas Gal Cooks Cookbook” is a very unique cookbook with many award-winning Texas recipes. Many of the recipes go back to the 1800s.

My cookbook is like six cookbooks in one large cookbook. I have sections for “Cooking With Children,”-“How to Make Gift Baskets,”-“How to Make Gift Bread-“Mexican Food, “-“Dessert Recipes,”-“How to Make a Family Recipe Book,”-Entrees, Appetizers, and Lots of Cooking Hints.

“A Texas Gal Cooks Cookbook” makes a great Texas souvenir, and delightful gifts. It is a “Must Have Cookbook.” You will love it.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I did have a few struggles along the way.

It was a big decision which recipes I was going to include in the cookbook. I had so many to go through, and this was very time-consuming. I also typed the book on my own. I did my artwork and took pictures as I cooked to put in the cookbook. Whew!!! It was a “Labor of Love” for sure.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with your work?
I have always been a very creative person and have been blessed with many talents. I have always loved sewing, including designing clothes and making my own patterns. I did appliqué, and monograms. I made pillows and monogrammed those. I also made decorative towels and pillows to give as gifts. I designed and made dresses for myself and my daughter.

I always had a photographic mind, and I could go to designer stores and come home and make clothes just like they had. I always added my touch to make it a little different. I also made drapes, curtains, some upholstery, and home decor pillows. I loved making baby quilts and drawing my own appliqué designs. I also monogrammed the baby’s name on it.

I loved to do special gifts for my friends. My sewing was a fun hobby for me.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a very kind, thoughtful, and a very caring person. All of my friends know this about me. Someone reading my book might not know that about me. I do think that my book brings out my personality.

I had some difficult times as a child, but I don’t talk about those times, so most people never know about the heartaches that I experienced. I have overcome all of that and have a loving husband, devoted children, and a grandchild. I have had a very happy life for many years. Life is wonderful.
