Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Crumbley.
Carrie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Resoycled began in 2012 as a project to turn my collection of vintage vessels into unique home goods. Resoycled organically grew into a small business, from initially filling found, storytelling pieces to currently using recycled glass containers. I introduced Resoycled at the Denton Community Market and it became and remains my link to the small business community. It is because of the strong sense of community in the DFW area that Resoycled has become what it is today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ohhh no, definitely not! The creative freedom that comes along with running my own business is one of the best feelings in the world. I absolutely love designing new collections and developing unique fragrances, but the downside to all of this freedom is the feeling of detachment from the outside world. I try to collaborate with other creative individuals as often as possible because I miss the relationships we develop when working alongside others in a professional environment.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Resoycled manifests my love for clean and simple housewares in comfortable, curated spaces. I believe that truly minimal goods necessitate environmentally conscious choices. That’s why each of my candles are made with carefully selected materials.
Resoycled vessels are made from recycled glass and fitted with bamboo lids (making them completely reusable), the wax is 100% soy, the wicks are primed with vegetable wax (not paraffin) and are lead-free, and all of the labels are either recycled, compostable, or 100% cotton. I sought after clean materials from the beginning, pure soy wax remaining a constant and I am proud to deliver a product made with environmentally conscious practices that people can feel good about.
What were you like growing up?
I was a really crafty, somewhat introverted, tomboy. As a child, I was perfectly content playing alone in my room while I created artwork out of whatever I could find- homemade cards were my jam. I’ve always been interested in the environment, but really what kid isn’t?
I played in the dirt a lot and I tried every sport possible, which I think is why my love of this ever-changing, creative business runs deep. I like being on my feet and I have to work with my hands, as I mentioned before, artistic freedom is the driving force behind everything I do.
