Well, my journey into the world of design and marketing is a bit like a family heirloom passed down through generations. My mother and aunt, both trained graphic designers, were my earliest mentors. Fresh out of high school, my aunt offered me my first design job at a local newspaper. I was 18, eager, and ready to make my mark. That experience was like my rite of passage into design, and it ignited a passion in me that’s been burning ever since.
Fast forward a few years, and I found myself at a crossroads. I loved what I was doing, but the idea of working for someone else for the rest of my life just didn’t sit well with me. Enter Chase, my husband, and the other half of Viral Growth. He’s a born salesman with a natural ability to connect with people and a knack for back-end coding—basically, everything I’m not. We realized that our skills were like two pieces of a puzzle that fit perfectly together. So, we took a leap of faith and decided to combine our talents to create Viral Growth Marketing + Design.
Our dynamic is a bit like a buddy cop movie but for digital marketing. Chase is the outgoing one, handling client interactions, finances, and all the technical stuff. I’m the creative force, happiest when I’m behind the scenes, immersed in design projects. This arrangement works perfectly for us – I get to focus on what I love—bringing brands to life through design—without the stress of client-facing roles while he gets to do what he does best – foster amazing partnerships with our clients.
We both have ADHD, which might sound like a challenge, but it’s actually been a blessing in disguise. Our ever-changing interests and ability to hyperfocus have kept us agile and ahead of the curve. We’re always diving headfirst into the latest industry trends, learning everything there is to know, and then applying that knowledge in innovative ways to benefit our clients.
So, here we are, six years into this incredible journey, still as passionate as ever about helping local businesses thrive. We don’t just offer services; we offer partnerships. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where we are today has been filled with twists, turns, and a few bumps along the way. Before the pandemic even hit, we were already navigating a challenging period as my father was diagnosed with cancer. The emotional and time commitments required to care for him were significant, but we were fortunate to have an understanding client base. Our clients were incredibly supportive when we had to adjust deadlines, reinforcing why we’ve always prioritized building strong relationships in our business.
Then came the Covid-19 pandemic, which brought its own set of challenges. The marketing sector was hit hard, and there were moments when we were on the brink of shutting down. But we adapted, re-strategized, and managed to weather the storm.
And, of course, like any business, we’ve had our ups and downs. There are days when everything clicks, and then there are days when you wonder why you didn’t take up something a little less stressful—like lion taming or skydiving without a parachute. But those moments are rare, and in a way, they’re also necessary. They test your resolve and make you appreciate the good days even more.
So, while it hasn’t been a smooth road, it’s been an incredibly rewarding one. Each challenge has served as a lesson, each setback an opportunity to grow—not just as business owners but as people.
