Today we’d like to introduce you to Cavaliér.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had an eye for taking pictures. It all started as a boy growing up in California, I admired the landscapes and architecture enough to want to draw them, my oldest brother was an artist who could draw and I wanted to emulate him. It wasn’t until 2007 when I turned 15, my family and I moved here to Dallas, Texas when my mom bought me my first camera after telling her I was interested in how the sky would look at sunset and wanted to capture a moment. Fast forward to 2011 after graduating high school, I enlisted into the Marines and began to travel a bit for training and schools, etc. I had an iPhone and would take photos of everything I did from that point on, documenting every experience I shared with the people around me. As time went on, I fell off from it for a few years until 2016 when I was at a dark and slow period in my life, battling everything a person in their early 20s had going on mentally, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with myself and didn’t have any long term goals. My time in the military was closing and I had a lot of other things going on personally. While feeling like things were closing in on me, I bought my first DSRL out of desperation to do something and get my mind off things steering myself clear of depression, but I had no idea where it would eventually take me. I took full interest once again and I began trying my aim at portraiture. I became passionate about it more than anything else, I was doing and it has now grown and taken over. Today, as I look back, I never would have thought I’d consider doing this as a career but after realizing my own potential I absolutely don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have this.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By all means, it has not! I’ve juggled with the idea of giving this up multiple times but I remember an interview I saw with Nipsey Hustle where he stated he went through every emotion with doing music and I felt that personally so here I am today still going!
Please tell us about CavalierPhotography.
I am an ever-evolving visual artist, I do photography and I am currently learning how to produce videos but that is known to few until I can perfect it to my standards anyway. I am most proud of my progress, with every photo I take I get better and I feel it. I think what sets me apart is I stay quiet about what I’m doing, mostly because I don’t know exactly what I’m doing, I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I’m going to do it if that makes sense! I’m confident and I’m not afraid to fail.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory is growing up in California, living in a close-knit neighborhood everybody was always out, had their garages open, were active and us as kids were very active, we were adventurous, we would scrape our knees, chip our teeth and drink from the water hose, we were rowdy and we were free.
