Meet Chandler Magann of Next Exit Logistics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Magann.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chandler. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I previously worked as a sales associate at Sewell Lexus. My father had a trucking operation off and on since 1980. I had always had a large interest in learning the business from my father. After much anticipation, I decided to open a Texas sales office of my father’s company and work out of a spare bedroom in my house. It was at this point that I learned the ropes and the company began to expand. I opened a 400 square foot office in Duncanville with four employees.

My father’s trucking company moved a large amount of steel coils from steel mills across the country. After his drivers unloaded their initial load, they would reload from other businesses. At the time, he would transport items to the port in Charleston South Carolina for the Department of Defense during the war. My father taught me several valuable lessons when getting into the industry.

In January 2009, my father sold his entire business to investors. It was then that I founded, from scratch, the freight brokerage Magann Texas, LLC.

In July 2009, I felt it was in the company’s best interest to change our name because several people had trouble pronouncing Magann, and others didn’t think we shipped outside of Texas! This is how Next Exit Logistics was formed!

In August 2010, the company tripled and moved to a larger office in Desoto, Texas which is where Next Exit Logistics currently resides.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As every business owner knows, challenges and obstacles are inevitable. What really matters is how you deal with the situation and what you learn from it. All the rules and guidelines we currently follow have been put in to place because of past mistakes.

Because I didn’t immediately know what I was getting myself into with the trucking industry, I learned a lot from my father and the truck drivers he employed. The road was not always smooth and there was a lot of traffic we faced.

In my experience, companies unwilling to change and adapt, usually go out of business. I’ve always welcomed change and uncertainty because without it, my company would not have evolved to what it is today. I can truly say that starting in the industry in 2006 was the best decision I ever made. Every struggle and pothole we faced played an important part in our growth.

Next Exit Logistics – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We can arrange your shipping needs, but we specialize in the difficult, unique, unusual and impossible heavy haul shipments. We have coordinated the shipments of nearly 5 million pounds of pumpkins, rocket launchers, aerial drones, crawler cranes, tanks, bulldozers, and fabricated metals for commercial use and for the CIA, just to name a few.

We serve multiple industries, which has given us the experience to arrange the shipment of some of the most unique products ever. Construction equipment, military vehicles, hazardous equipment, hydro-energy materials, and utilities are only a few of the industries that we’ve helped.

We are most proud of our unmatched ability to successfully manage heavy haul trucking services on a regional and transcontinental scale, making us one of the top logistics, trucking, and freight companies in the country.

Next Exit has a superior level of customer service and dedication to our clients. We coordinate shipments with safe and accurate equipment on time with clear communication. We are known for providing innovative solutions while minimizing supply chain risk.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
A lot of people come to Dallas for business, so this is the reason there’s a lot of logistics activity based here and why we’ve been so successful. Surprisingly enough, the majority of our business isn’t done in the Dallas area! However, many of our clients have high activity here, so that’s how we’re thrown into the mix. Next Exit Logistics has also been able to attract a large number of clients based in other parts of Texas because they prefer to do business in Dallas as opposed to out of state.

Dallas has become such a fast-growing area, and that’s what makes it an ideal area to lay the foundation for a business. We’ve proudly served in the Southwest Dallas area since 2009 and have continued to see consistent growth.
