Meet Chandler of Chandler Serrano Personal training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Serrano.

Chandler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began hating my body around age 10 or 11. This was the year I entered 5th grade and for the first time noticed the girls around me starting to have shape to their bodies; small or large, straight or curved. But as we all know, the world’s standard of beauty is recognizable early in life.

I loved exercise always. I loved running, playing biking, and sought out activity every day because I enjoyed it so much. But as I grew older and negative body image thoughts set in, the workouts became dangerously excessive and I jumped to and from the latest crash diets trying to shed a few pounds and all this hatred I had for my body.

I tried Atkins; I lost my health & my energy.
I tried eating way too little and exercising way too much; I damaged my metabolism.
I tried marathon training; I was left with no muscle.
I ran a marathon; I badly injured my left knee.

I felt sad, lost, alone and weak. I’d worked for so many years to finally be “fit” and all I had to show for it was a broken spirit and a torn up knee. Until the day I ran into my trainer.

I hired a trainer who prepared women for bodybuilding competitions. Why? Because he said his clients didn’t run and I (had recently learned), could no longer run for weight loss.

Starting like anything else, I was enthusiastic and motivated. But this time… I actually lost weight? The weight loss motivated me to keep moving and the relief of {finally} seeing success fueled my enthusiasm even more.

So I lost a lot of weight and I competed in a bikini competition. Then I rested, and did it all again. But the second season, something cool happened. I stopped feeling guilty about food- it became fuel. I stopped over-training, because my plan had been perfectly calculated for me and I was going to execute flawlessly. I stopped looking at how much I weighed on the scale and started looking at my percentage of muscle mass growing. My mind changed. I went on to medal in that competition and to compete on a national stage a few months later.

It took YEARS for me to learn self-love. My feet carried me through countless endeavors, held up under the most extreme demands, my feed logged thousands of miles, my arms pushed and pulled weights over and over, my heart kept me moving when I was too tired and wanted to sleep. But never once had I stopped to recognize and thank my body for the incredible work of art it was.

I received my college degree in education, and while I no longer serve in the classroom, I married my love for teaching and fitness to start my career as a personal trainer. The only endeavor that makes me happier than finding my own self-love through fitness, is helping others find theirs.

Please tell us about Chandler Serrano Personal Training.
I started my personal training business in the spring of 2017 when I recognized a working woman’s need for easy-to-follow workouts and meal plans.

Channeling my love for teaching into my work as a fitness professional, I hope to help others achieve health through custom tailored programs to individual needs. Mothers, teachers, nurses, students all have different demands.

Learn how to develop a healthy living style, learn about your body, how to shop for the right foods and receive workouts built for you. Together, we will work to build a healthy lifestyle that supports your goals, even in the midst of a busy schedule.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could go back, I would have sought out professional help sooner. I destroyed my health and metabolism several times trying to crash diet, or completing programs that had been created with someone else in mind. Once my efforts had direction, success came so much more easily.
