As a child, I remember my grandmother with platinum blonde hair and her vibrant signature red lipstick was her every day look. I looked up to her and my mother always, they never left the house without hair or makeup done. That’s when I began to fall in love with the beauty industry. After attending college for a couple of years, I had a change of heart and wanted to pursue my life long dream and go to Ogle Cosmetology school. During my time at Ogle, my instructors pushed me to the best of my ability and taught me not just to be a stylist but to be a professional stylist.
Has it been a smooth road?
There were so many struggles with this journey. One of my biggest struggles was myself. I held myself back from so many things because I was afraid of what people would think and say. I let other people’s views stop me from going through with my career. But then, I realized I want to wake up every day and be happy with my job and my life. So, that’s when I let all the negative vibes and energy go away.

My business is Sparklebycoco. We provide services from makeup, facials and hair needs. We specialize in natural hair, color, and styling. We are known for our Silk Presses which keeps the clients coming back for more. I am most proud of making someone else feel special through whatever service I provide. Being a plus size women, I always feel the need to look the par. So, when I started this business, I wanted to cater to all genders and races. That is the one thing that sets my brand apart from others. We don’t discriminate against anyone and everyone needs a little sparkle in their life.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that our city is growing in so many ways and it is so much talent around. One thing I don’t like is that there is not enough giving back to the community. Some people forget where they came from.
