Meet Channyn Bryant of Charmed Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Channyn Bryant.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First, I would like to say I’m super excited for this opportunity! My name is Channyn Bryant and I’m a hairstylist in the Dallas area. My brand name, my baby that I created is Charmed Beauty. I’ve been doing hair since I was about 11. Growing up my sister, brother, and I spent a lot of time in Arkansas with our grandparents. I remember my granny would braid me, my sister, and my cousin’s hair. She would shampoo and condition our hair. Then oil our scalp and braid us up. Thinking back, I have some aunts and cousins who were stylists too. I really have always been around somebody doing hair. I loved getting my hair done too. My mom took me and my sister to a salon once to get our hair done. We got the entire experience. I was on clouds, ok. I think that was the day I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up lol.

I got older and decided I wanted to try braids on myself. I practiced and played around for a while. I started to get really good with braiding. My big sister was even letting me do her hair for school. I’m like 13, in middle school at this point. I started having friends who would let me braid their hair. When my sister went to high school, she introduced me to the sew in. We would be on YouTube for hours waiting on a sew-in tutorial to load. I tried new styles and kept up with the trends. I went through high school making my little money from doing friends’ and family hair. This was something I actually enjoyed doing. I could have gone to cosmetology school in high school, but I wasn’t sure if that was what I wanted to commit to. I graduated high school in 2014. Fast forward to 2018, I graduated from Cosmetology school at Remington college. A few months after graduation, I had my business name and business plan together. I put in the work and made Charmed Beauty legit.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, nothing is smooth about starting and maintaining your own business in my opinion. Especially with no easy access to start-up funds. You have to stay dedicated and do it the right way. I was a full-time mommy, going to cosmetology school and working to start my business. I pushed through. I’m not where I want to be yet with Charmed Beauty, but I’m nowhere close to where I started. God has definitely carried me and my business over the past few years. I’m blessed.

We’ve been impressed with Charmed Beauty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is Charmed Beauty. I am a licensed cosmetologist. I service adults and children. I specialize in protective styles such as box braids, starter locs, retwists, two-strand twists, sew-ins, crochets, and a variety of other styles. I love doing cute, creative braid styles on my kid clients. I have the patience for kids that most stylists don’t have when it comes to working with younger age groups. I think that’s the thing that sets me apart from others. The kids need self-care days just like adults do. I also try to keep some inventory on hand. Wigs, stylish sunglasses, lashes. We have to compliment the hairstyle with some accessories!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is don’t be afraid to take risks. I used to be scared to fail. Talking myself out of certain opportunities. But how do you fail at something if you never even try in the first place? Take that risk. Don’t limit yourself.
