Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte and Bryan Brant.
Bryan worked for a few of the big guys after moving to Dallas and learned the trade, but didn’t like the shady business practices he encountered. He ended up joining the Dallas Fire Department and treated a few yards on the side, on his days off. In April of 2015, Charlotte got laid off, so Bryan picked up more yards to try and earn some extra money, and Charlotte ran the books and the schedule. By October of 2015, he was earning more money treating lawns than on the fire department, and it was time to make a decision. Having their own business allowed Bryan to be home each night with his kids, and allowed Charlotte to sleep each night knowing Bryan wasn’t running into burning buildings. So, they took the plunge and decided to do it full time.
Now, Bryan’s parents are joining the team! They’re in the process of moving down from Somerset, PA. The whole family is thrilled to know that a simple business model of honesty and great customer service has proven to be as successful as they’d hoped.
Has it been a smooth road?
Having your own business is so much work, and there is no such thing as a day off. But when it’s yours, you don’t mind…you don’t really even notice! We’ve faced obstacles in our first year, that’s for sure. Charlotte is not an accountant or a bookkeeper, and we are paying the price by trying to clean everything up this year. Also, growth is harder than you’d think. You get to a point where you’re too busy to keep up, but not quite busy enough to hire someone….so you just work constantly, every hour you’re awake. Knowing how to market, what truck to buy, whether to lease or buy a property or just stay at your kitchen table…. every single thing is a learning process. Everything is a lesson learned the hard way. We are just embracing the chaos.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Brant’s Lawns – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We make lawns beautiful, healthy, enjoyable. We specialize in weed control, fertilization and outdoor pest control. We offer standard and organic options, and we also do aeration, seeding/over seeding, and sod installation. We get a lot of customers coming from big corporate companies who are disappointed at spending a lot of money and not seeing any results, and being thrilled at the change in their yard after just one treatment. The thing that makes us the most proud is that across Facebook, Google, Yelp and Thumbtack, we have a combined 60 reviews, and 56 of them are 5 star (3 of the rest are 4 star, only one 3 star)! We’ve taken many yards that people have called us out to bid for sod and brought them back to life without the need to spend those big bucks. We say what we mean, we will always return you call or email, and we’ll work until you’re happy.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas is eclectic and widespread, and people love to have a great yard. But the soil, SUCKS.
