Meet Chaselyn Wade of Uptown/ Oaklawn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaselyn Wade.

Hi Chaselyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a performer and actor and artist since I was very young. I’ve been doing the art of drag speaks to the age of 17… (That is its own story), so I’ve been in the industry for over 30 years and seeing that some performers did not get booked as often as others because of the type of performances that they did or the type of part that they presented was it as appreciated as others, I thought there was a need for there to be a variety so I decided to start my own business and branch out and start booking, unique, talent myself.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, we were very successful for quite a few years, and then Texas decided that they were going to throw out a bunch of new laws and regulations and develop a witch hunt against my particular industry and over the last couple of years it has been an uphill battle

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
we specialize in bringing the art of drag performance to the suburbs and out of the bars we like to bring our art to people that would never attempt to go to a bar late at night instead, we bring it to you during the day on a Sunday afternoon instead of a Saturday night

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I definitely have a team, that has been there from the start my business partners, my social media and marketing expert Tristan Tanner, which is also one of my fellow performers and cohost at times,
My 2 time Emmy winning Dj, Shane Allen and of course my husband John Vance that does a lot of the business side/ contract work.
