Meet Chastity Vaughn of S2R HAIR STUDIO in Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chastity Vaughn.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my start growing up as a child back in Tupelo, Mississippi. I remember my mother who is also a hairstylist doing hair. I would watch her and learn certain techniques and by that, I ultimately found myself infatuated with hair as well. Once old enough to do so, I registered and attended (Foster’s Cosmetology in Ripley, MS 1998), this is where I would learn everything I needed to know about hair and the hair industry. I took that knowledge, packed up and moved to Texas, where I would eventually open Something2Remember Salon & Boutique. When I purchased my first home, I had the idea that I could convert my garage into a salon, work from home doing something I loved along with being a mother to my little ones. This proved to be one of the most rewarding and best decisions I’ve made thus far. This because I had a vision, implemented a plan and practically watched my salon grow right before my eyes. Through word of mouth and networking, my clientele would blossom drastically which within a few years granted me the ability to move out of my garage and into my own salon setting. At first, I was a bit hesitant to make the move, because you know you get comfortable being somewhere for so long and to have to uproot to a different environment was a bit scary I must be honest. But I knew what I wanted to accomplish as a business owner and stylist. I knew that there would be more opportunities out there for me if I made the move so I did. This move allowed my salon to get the exposure that it needed to advance to the next level. I remained there for a few years but thanks to God, my clientele continued to grow and therefore, I would need to move to a bigger salon space to accommodate the salon needs. I must say that I have come a long way from doing hair in my garage to where I am now. It makes me extremely proud to see where I’ve come from. Currently, I am proud to say that I now own my own Hair Studio in the Richardson area which caters to servicing my clients to provide a 5-star luxury experience while changing the way someone feels about themselves on a more private, 1-on-1 basis if necessary.

Has it been a smooth road?
My journey as a hairstylist and owner has definitely not been a walk in the park but it hasn’t been bad. I think that with starting your own business it takes a lot of energy and sacrifice of one’s self in the beginning stages. A lot of sleepless nights and brainstorming. I also think when I began the salon in the garage, having toddler twins at the same time as deciding to open a business would have to have been the most challenging time for me. But it’s a time that I would not trade for the world. It challenged and tested me as a new business owner and actually showed me what I was made of. That period of time showed me that I was built for this business. I truly learned a lot about myself as a person. Life’s challenges promise us endless opportunities to reassess, reevaluate, and push beyond the boundaries of comfort over and over again. No one understands that more than I do.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with S2R HAIR STUDIO – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At S2R HAIR STUDIO, I provide an array of services including but not limited to all types of natural hair, sister locks, traditional locs, updos, silk press (blowouts), hair tape extensions and more. It is important in my opinion to be able to be versatile as a hairstylist and not limit yourself to what you can do when it comes to hair. I absolutely love what I do, my overall desire is to create a professional and relaxing environment and be able to cater to my clients to provide exceptional customer service and satisfaction that they deserve.

I am also now proud to say that I offer a Sisterlock Coaching Program as well as a Business 101 class.

Being a mentor to others is also a passion of mine. If I learn something, I love to share the knowledge that I have obtained if it can benefit others along their journey. Continued education is high on my list of things necessary in order to continue improving your craft. It is my overall objective as a stylist to transform and create new and exciting looks for today’s modern woman at the same time by giving them a 5-star experience. Natural hair and Sisterlocks is definitely my specialty and what I would be most known for. Styling and caring for natural hair. I would have to say that I am most proud of the growth, consistency and success of Chastity Vaughn Salon. What set me apart from others? I am comfortable in my own skin, I confident in all that I do, and I think it’s reflected in my work. I also have a fluid personality. I can work with almost any type of person and I also like to collaborate with my clients on a look as opposed to trying to dictate what they’re next style will be.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that Dallas has a lot of opportunities for growth for small businesses like myself.

There’s not much that I do not like about Dallas with the exception of the heat. That I could definitely live without. Other than that, the Dallas area has been good to me and for me in my growth as a business and brand.
