Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Andrea.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was sitting at my desk and heard my guides say “go to the Dallas Psychic Fair.” I asked “why? I’m already in private practice. Why would I be a reader there?” Their only response was “because your time is running out.” Hmmmm. What does THAT mean I wondered. So, as always, I listened to their direction and applied to join the group a week later. Several months passed before there was space to include me. I worked one month, had a month off, then on my third month in the group, the original owners/creators of the business announced that after more than 25 years, they were ready to find their successors!
I flew across the room waiving the announcement note in my hands and proclaimed to one of the owners “it’s ME! That’s why my guides sent me!” Later that day, they asked to speak with me. We sat together for ten min and discussed what they were imagining and how they were more interested in finding someone who would care for the event that they were in a hurry to turn it over. The interesting thing about that conversation was that until Barbara looked directly into my eyes and asked “now, do you have the money to buy the business?” I didn’t even realize I was asking to buy a business! It never occurred to me.
So, of course, I said “yep. I have the money”. They were asking $50k! No financial records to prove that was a reasonable asking price. No negotiations either. And I did not have $10 to spare at that time. I was about to divorce, and I had little idea of what that would entail financially, but something in me was so certain that I couldn’t contain myself.
So I promptly waited to hear back from the prior owners as they interviewed eight other people. As I waited, I told anyone who would listen, that I was buying the Dallas Psychic Fair and took time to elaborate on my ideas for developing the business into a modern, 21st-century business. I also invited anyone who would consider it, to invest $10k at a very generous return on their investment of 15% and a 2-year term. Two months after this magical moment, they called and said “yep! It IS you, Cheryl! You are the “right” fit. Can you close by year end?” Well, that was only weeks away, and at that moment it was not viable, so we agreed on a February closing and subsequent two months of hands-on training. The rest is history.
In the last 11 years, I have completely revitalized the once small monthly event. I have created a website, a prescheduling system online for advance sales, added 30% more professional psychic readers, increased their earnings by more than double, added 20% more vendors and wellness practitioners, increased sales by more than double each month, created and grown a mailing list of more than 5500 ppl and created an online presence – including a strong social media presence. I love, truly LOVE the people I’m blessed to lead, the community we serve together, and the first Sunday is my favorite day of every month. I have worked steadily and with great focus to bring my best to the table and have found a niche in my community that suits me and my life purpose well.
I am very blessed to own and produce this event! I call it an honor to serve in this manner.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All in all, it’s been a path of great growth and continued self-development as I show up and am committed to my best foot forward – no matter what. The challenges have been minimal compared to other experiences, but I’m certain that’s due to my love of the work itself. I am able to use my best qualities-creativity, critical thinking, solution finding, leadership, passion and past professional experience in the mind/body industry… all in a subject matter/niche market that is my life calling.
So, in retrospect, all challenges I’ve experienced have been personal growing pains as I developed new understandings of business, new awarenesses of self and my ability to shine in a way I was not previously comfortable doing. I am so very grateful for those in my community who have grown along with me… who have shown up every month to serve alongside me. They teach me too…
Dallas Psychic Fair – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are the oldest and largest of psychic fairs in our country! AND 2019 marks our 40th anniversary! Both of which I am immensely proud of.
We offer over 75 professional psychic readers, vendors and wellness practitioners to support and assist our beloved visitors on their life journey.
We are a strong community of committed “lightworkers” who believe in humanity and leaving our world better than we found it by our contributions.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Creating a turnkey business package from scratch that is of our fair business model. I sold the “business in a box” to a woman in Portland in 2017 and had been working on identifying other metaphysical leaders in large cities across the U.S. that could also benefit from my successful model.
With this business package, they receive 100% of everything I use to run my business. It’s tailored to their city, their desired branding and includes a website with the same proprietary online pre-schedule board.
The only thing NOT included is their company formation (LLC, Corporation,etc.) and bank and merchant accounts. It’s a project I’m very proud of having created.
