Today we’d like to introduce you to Chevy Gil.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chevy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Photography for me wasn’t my first career plan by any means. I was in yearbook my 7th and 8th grade year and enjoyed it capturing the school events but once I got into high school, I was all about the Junior Air Force Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC). Of course my game plan from there was to be enlisted and make a difference in some way, shape, or form. Well, life obviously had a different game plan for me. A few months before graduating, a couple of my friends saw some landscape pictures I had taken and asked me to take their senior pictures. Ever since that moment, it has just been a snowball effect that led me to move to Denton, TX in 2015 and continue my new found love while capturing the precious moments of everyday life.
Has it been a smooth road?
Everyone thinks that photography is so easy and simple, but what people don’t understand is that its 10% picture taking and 90% business, marketing, and more. Starting out, I struggled to find the balance of it all, and I’m not going to lie, it still happens. But being able to talk with others about how to make your business better, helps a ton! Another obstacle that I encountered was trying to connect with other photographers once I moved to Denton. A lot of photographers want to keep it all to themselves and not share a single bit of knowledge with you. Which made it really hard to connect. There was one photographer that told me that since I don’t use/was just learning off camera flash (OCF) that I should just stop booking weddings. Those words alone lit an internal fire to show them that I wasn’t backing down and that I have what it takes to make it in the industry. Since all of these experiences, I have became the photographer I am today while still growing and creating the best images possible!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chevy Chey Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Chevy Chey Photography came about through a nickname I got back in high school and loved how unique it was. I currently specialize in weddings, high school seniors, and college seniors with a recent add-on of wedding videography. Currently, I am known for my wedding videography and my high school Role Model team. With both of these, I have been featured in Modern Teen Magazine and received 4th place overall for 2017 Dallas A-list for videography in DFW. In all honesty, though, I believe what sets me apart is being really personal and honest with all my clients. Being completely honest and transparent is all anyone ever wants.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Denton for its artistic charms along with its friendly atmosphere but I do wish that I-35 would be completely done.
