Meet Michelle Parker of The Chiropractic Place for Mommy & Me in Aledo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Parker.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Oklahoma and while I was in High School, I had terrible stomach and intestinal issues that I had no idea what was going on. I was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s and had gone the standard route of medication, immunosuppressants, and steroids. It worked for a temporary amount of time, but still, feel like I missed out on so much of my High School years due to being ill and my classmates not understanding. I went to a chiropractor for my first time for jaw-related issues but noticed that every time he adjusted my low back, my stomach and nausea was much better. When I asked him why this would happen, he explained how the body is so interconnected and how if one area of the body is struggling, then it may affect something else. He also gave me a book called, The Fungus Link, where I learned about nutrition and how to eat super clean that allowed me to regain my health and put Crohn’s into remission. It was at that moment that I knew that that was the type of doctor I wanted to be.

I worked full-time at a local credit union while going to five different colleges at night and on the weekends to earn my undergrad. I was the first in my family to go to college. It was a long few years, but worth it because I was on my way to Texas for graduate school. While I was at Parker College of Chiropractic, I fell in love with a Texas boy, Dr. Justin Parker. We decided to stay in Texas and plant roots to raise a family together.

I graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic in December 2010. This is when we created what is now known as, The Chiropractic Place for Mommy & Me. Working with families, especially with pregnant women and children, is so life-giving. In 2012, we welcomed our first son into the world, Jarrett. Soon after he was born, we found ourselves being overwhelmed with a baby struggling with colic, eczema, psoriasis, and major breastfeeding difficulties with tongue and lip-ties. Soon after, postpartum depression came in. I found myself in a place that I never thought I would be. I felt like a failure.

I have made it my mission to try and learn as much as I can, moving forward to help as many women and children as we can to thrive to their fullest potential. I wanted to find out why my journey had been such a struggle in areas and where we could help positively impact someone else’s life for the better. I have become the only doctor in Texas with a Diplomate in Chiropractic Pediatrics achieved by the Academy Council of Chiropractic Pediatrics + International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. To help children with tongue and lip-ties, breastfeeding difficulties, torticollis, hypotonia, delayed in milestones and more, I have taken courses to become Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist, Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, Primitive Reflex Integration. In our clinic, we also chat about emotional, spiritual, and physical health. We are a whole package. All of those areas need to be address to make sure that we are as healthy as a whole.

Learning more about the Adverse Childhood Event score, and myself having a high score, I am also working on becoming certified with the Melillo Method, co-founder of Brain Balance Centers, in Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Focusing on children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, sensory processing disorders, PTSD, tic disorders and more. I thought that I was going to take these courses to help all the children, but found so much healing for myself. Pain has not been my preferred teacher, but it has been the most effective.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life has definitely not always been easy, but it is what you make out of it. I know the saying, “making lemonade from lemons” can get old, but I held that to high regard and shot for the stars. I was a child of divorce, sexual child abuse and other factors that shaped me into who I am today. Going through high school and my early 20’s with an auto-immunity was an adventure. It was hard at times, because none of my friends my age understood what I was going through. However, it made me stronger in the end.
