Meet Chris Blumenshine of Bellissimo Foto in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Blumenshine.

Chris, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my photography career in Los Angeles as an editor for an entertainment company in the late 90’s. This is when digital photography just started to make its way into the film world. I started shooting for them here and there when needed and began to shoot pretty much everything when other photographers were booked. My first two jobs were a Michael Bolton Hollywood walk of fame induction and a Celebrity Boxing weigh in. I’ll never forget it because I had a picture of Joey Buttafucco and Chyna, the wrestler that was one of AOL pictures of the week. lol. Soon after, the photography world turned fully digital and I started to attend Red Carpet events, Award shows and concerts. As the time went on, I got really burned out with Los Angeles. I started a family and moved to Texas and started my own business and built up my clientele. Skimming Craigslist ads and making new friends to photograph to build up my portfolio locally. It was a lot of hard work and still is.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I said, it’s hard work. When I started out here in Denton in 2004, there seemed to be maybe 20-50 photography businesses you could find online. Now, there’s probably 1000.

Digital cameras have evolved so much and the internet has exploded over those years so it’s not really hard to go buy a camera, take some pictures of your kids and friends kids and then open shop as a professional photographer and charge their friends $50. Quality generally has staying power. I’ve been blessed and fortunate for my success

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bellissimo Foto – what should we know?
Weddings, corporate work (big companies), portraits of course, sports (I shoot for Texas Women’s U).

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being myself.
