Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Marshall.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Northern New Jersey about 20 miles outside of NYC. Going into Manhattan to shop, go to the theatre, visit museums, etc. was the norm. I always looked forward to visiting all the flagship stores to see the latest and greatest in fashion. NYC is just an electric place to be with inspiration everywhere you look. I knew from a very young age that the fashion industry is where I wanted to lead my career. When it came time for me to go to college my parents wanted me to leave the tri-state area and explore different parts of the country.
That is how I wound up going to The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where I graduated with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. After graduation, I moved back to the tri-state area and worked for Bloomingdales. Two years passed and I was starting to get restless, wondering what else was out there for me. On a complete whim, I packed up everything and moved to Dallas, TX not knowing one single sole. I knew Dallas had a growing fashion industry and some of the friendliest people that I met in college were from Texas. So, why not?!?! I had nothing to lose. Fast forward to 18 years later, I am still working in the fashion industry and loving every changing minute of it.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think that anyone can honestly say life has been a smooth road for them. There are so many obstacles and challenges that we all encounter on a daily basis. I believe it is how you handle them that makes all the difference. I am a glass half full type of girl. I choose to start each day with a positive outlook and have faith that things will always work out the way they were meant to not necessarily the way you want them to be. I treat others the way that I would like to be treated and respect the fact that we are all on different journeys in this life. What keeps me on this path? Lots and lots of self-care (Bikram Yoga, weekly acupuncture, and LOTS of good skincare) as well as travel! My goal is to visit as many new countries as I can each year. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am always planning for my next getaway. Taking care of me allows me to take care of others.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have been working at Macy’s for almost eight years as a stylist/personal shopper. Macy’s Personal Stylist service at Macy’s is a fun, fast, and complimentary offering for our customers!! I love what I do and look forward to coming to work every single day. The best part of my job is that I get to meet new people all the time as well as build on relationships with my current clients. I never want them to leave Macy’s and a friend/relative/coworker ask them “Who told you to buy that”? I want them to feel beautiful and confident in what they are wearing. I believe that style is about the individual and not necessarily about the trends. I love to hear that they received tons of compliments on their purchases. A stylist/client relationship should always have that foundation of trust with the feeling of shopping with your best girlfriend.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best part of Dallas: It’s a big city with small-town vibes. No matter where I am in Dallas I am constantly running into someone I know. It’s one of the friendliest cities I have ever been to. You have a friend in Dallas no matter where you may be.
