Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Phillips.
Christina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a veteran interior designer, I have always felt like Fort Worth was devoid of good design resources, especially the “instant gratification” options. I was constantly forced to make the trek to Dallas in search of unique items for my clients… and myself. Being a treasure hunter, for vintage decor (mid-century in particular), I decided it was time to bring my vision to Fort Worth, and Park + Eighth was born.
Two years ago, we opened our doors, and our community was excited and supportive. We are stocked full of vintage decor items from lacquered casegoods and polished lucite to brass and upholstery. One is likely to find Platner, Milo Baughman, and Mastercraft as well as Mid Century French and Italian pieces. Macassar and burl wood inventory fills the store. Our mid-century barware offerings are some of the best available, and we have inspired many to start a collection.
We source only the best of the best, restore it to perfection and offer all from our floor for that instant gratification so many are looking for. To complete the concept we have over a dozen local artists gracing our walls with magnificent original artworks from oils and eglomise to collages and mixed media. We have been voted “Best Of Art” and Best Of Vintage Decor” by Fort Worth Magazine readers two years in a row! Our website www.parkandeighth.com makes shopping online easy as well.
Being a licensed and certified designer, I am also able to assist my customers in choosing the perfect piece of art or furnishings for their space. Big news is we are opening a second location on Camp Bowie Blvd in early 2019! We will be rolling out our private label upholstery line in partnership with Kisabeth Furniture! The midcentury styles will be offered exclusively through Park + Eighth. If high-end mid-century and abstract art are up to your alley, we are your one-stop place to shop.
Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, it has been fairly smooth. However, there are always things to learn when starting a new venture. We have learned from every experience especially in sourcing our inventory, shipping, and marketing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Park + Eighth – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I think most of this has been answered but to touch on a few points…
We are most proud of our customer relations. We hope that our customers feel special when they are here, that they are valued and given the attention they deserve. We want shopping at Park + Eighth to be an experience, and I think we are providing that in our atmosphere.
I think what sets us apart is the way we showcase our inventory into vignettes. This concept shows our customer how to use our mid-century pieces, gives them a sense of scale in a room. We strategically place art so that the colors come alive and the sizes are shown proportionately to real spaces.
We are also not a showroom full of “project” furniture that requires work on the customer’s end. Our collections are refurbished to perfection so the shoppers can begin using and loving immediately. We are known for mid-century, art and vintage barware… at a minimum.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Fort Worth! It is such a warm and inviting place to live (and visit). We are growing so fast and have so much to offer.
Our museums are top notch, our dining is plentiful, our downtown is superb! People here are always willing to serve one another as well. It’s a BIG “small town.”
What I like least about our city is high property taxes and lack of good retail… although the latter is getting better every year!
