Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Brady and Melanie Buckholt.
Christine and Melanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Christine: Melanie has a better story for this part, but I’ll offer my two cents. I jumped into Yard Card Wishes after literally one phone call three years ago. I’m in the marketing and advertising space so after seeing other signs up around town, I thought, hm, we can make Yard Card Wishes the best yard card sign company out there! And with that, we set up a website, designed some amazing graphics and letters, and started marketing and advertising our business. We started with the idea of setting up fun celebration signs, but it has grown into so much more. So many stories of cheers and smiles and just being there when someone needs it most.
Melanie: My kids had started school and I had some free time on my hands. I needed something flexible where I could make my own hours. My husband surprised me with my first couple of sets of letters for Mother’s Day that year! It is the perfect fit for a stay at home Mom!
Has it been a smooth road?
Christine: I wish! Actually, I don’t wish because we learned a lot along the way. Our struggles really had to do with keeping up with our customers and jobs, while also getting into the groove of managing the business end of things. Setting up a beautiful birthday wish is one thing, but then managing the invoices, taxes and bills is another.
Melanie: I agree with Christine. Managing the customer is definitely my favorite part and that came easily for me. Managing the business part is a little harder to get the hang of. It’s also hard when we are booked and I have to turn someone down. I don’t like to do that. Usually, one of us can make it happen for the customer.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Yard Card Wishes story. Tell us more about the business.
Christine: We are Yard Card Wishes and we make your celebrations come to life! We have Yard Card Wishes Artists all over the DFW area that are second to none as far as making their customers jobs their number one priority. I am most proud that we are a growing company made up of people who really and truly care about making your event look amazing. Whether celebrating a newlywed couple, a 100 year birthday, a 60 year anniversary, an eight-year-old’s birthday, or new homes and babies, Yard Card Wishes is there for you.
Melanie: Yard Card Wishes does custom yard decorations to help celebrate your life’s happiest times!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Christine & Melanie: We’re going to answer this together since we’re both on the same page for where we’re headed… yard cards will always be in demand because celebrations will always be around! As a company, we’ve got some fun things coming up that will help us expand and grow even more as a company.
