Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Findlay.
Hi Christy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had to put my education on hold as I was a very young single mother of four children. As the kids got older, I was able to take a good look at what I wanted for my own life. I worked full time and went to school to obtain my BA and MS with the support of my kids and my now husband. Helping people has always been something I wanted to do as a career. Being a mental health professional can be both challenging and rewarding. I found a great group of individuals who had the same passion as I did. I was able to open my own private practice with a diverse group of therapists to meet the mental health needs of individuals in our area.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some obstacles I faced were going to school while working full time and raising children. Making a career change later in life was exciting and terrifying at the same time. Trying to find time to complete my requirements with a family and job was a challenge.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a mental health counselor in private practice. I specialize in couples and individuals who are looking to improve their relationships, learn boundaries, develop healthy communication and increase their daily functioning overall. I have a group of professionals on my team who offer specialized therapies, such as Couples Counseling, Adolescent Therapy, Children?s Play Therapy, Sex Therapy, DBT skills, EMDR Therapy, Domestic Violence, and Substance abuse therapy, just to name a few.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband and children have been a huge support in helping me build my dream career. My office manager has been a rock and has been instrumental in helping open this office. My team of therapists in the office are amazing, we are truly like a family. I could not have done any of this without all of them!
